“Dear PoP,

I work in Farragut North, and often frequent the Black Rooster Pub at 1919 L Street, NW. Check out this Twitter petition put together to keep the Peace Corps from forcing the pub out of its building.”

Hmm, I’ve never been to the Black Rooster Pub but it sounds pretty sweet. Not sure how helpful a petition will be but it’s worth a shot. If you’d like to do so you can sign the petition here.

What’s the word on Black Rooster Pub – any big fans out there?

From an email:

“I know that Jeopardy! gets a good share of Washingtonians, but I don’t know how often Columbia Heights is represented on the show.

This Monday, October 5th, I’ll be a contestant on Jeopardy.

We are gathering in the main downstairs dining room of Nellie’s Sports
bar on U street, NW (be sure to ask for the Jeopardy party at the
front door). The show starts at 7:30, but we’ll get there a little
earlier to take advantage of some drink specials. Nellie’s has great
bar food (try the corn dogs!) so come early, come thirsty and be sure
to have a few drinks before I show up in high definition! I hope
you’ll stop by!

When: Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009 drinks @6; dinner @7.
Where: Gordon Biersch, 900 F Street NW, WDC
Why: To meet other creative geniuses and make some new friends!

Bar Dupont is located at 1500 New Hampshire Avenue NW in the former location of Biddy Mulligan’s. It’s been almost a year since Biddy Mulligan’s closed so I thought it was about time to judge Bar Dupont. How’s the atmosphere? Better or worse than than Biddy’s? Do they serve food as well? It looks pretty swank – how are the prices? Overall – thumbs up or down?

A reader sent in this question and photo via twitter:

“Has anyone ever gotten drunk at Cosi?”

I think that’s a really good question. I guess it is a bit odd that Cosi sports a full bar. And it got me thinking, what’s the most random bar/restaurant/bookstore or random place you’ve ever gotten drunk? Chipotle?

You can follow me on twitter @PoPville here.

I don’t know how I missed this development. While we have a Gastropub, CommonWealth in Columbia Heights, this one sounds a bit different. It will be called Againn and their Web site says:

“A contemporary gastropub. A place to gather – your thoughts or with friends – and enjoy traditional British Isle pub cuisine presented in modern ware. Extensive single-malt scotch and beer selections, as well as fine wines and personal scotch lockers. Till we meet Againn. Drink Slowly. Eat Well. Speak Kindly.”

Sounds awesome. They say they’ll be open in Fall ’09 and when I walked by there was lots of action going on inside. They’ll be located at 1099 New York Avenue, NW:

Back in June I shared some scuttlebutt that the owners of Marvin had purchased this location at 1115 U St, NW. Turns out to be partially true. The Going Out Gurus provide the details:

“The U Street Music Hall is slated to open in early 2010 in the old Cue Bar location at 1115 U Street — a basement-level space that can hold 250 to 300 people. Eastman says the place will have “a rock-club atmosphere with a high-end sound system. No bottle service or any of that.”

You can read the rest of the details here.

The Greene Turtle is located at 601 F Street, NW. From time to time folks ask me where is a good spot to go before an event at the Verizon Center. Some folks have mentioned this spot. I’ve never been but wonder what folks think of this spot? Is it just massively overrun with tourists or is it a decent sports bar?

I’ve been getting a number of emails about this spot. This is the place that is going to be the new lounge and sports bar, The Green Room, located at 3632 Georgia Ave. (right next door to Looking Glass Lounge). You can find more details from an interview I posted with the owner here. One thing I was excited to learn from the application was that there will also be a small summer garden that can seat 20.

H Street Country Club is located at 1335 H Street, NE. It’s probably most well known for its mini-golf located on the second floor. Personally, I’m a huge fan of bar shuffleboard. So, now that they’ve been open for a bit, I’m wondering what folks think of the spot? I’ve heard mixed reviews. Do you think an improved drink selection will improve the spot? How’s the food? How are the crowds?

You can see the full press release about the new mixologist after the jump. (more…)
