“Dear PoP,

Just wanted to give you a heads up on the Boundary Stone. There’s a portapotty and dumpster out front. I took the second photo through the window, where you can see scaffolding and such. So it looks like they’re finally working on it again.”

Back in Feb. ’10 we we first go word that another new bar would be heading to Bloomingdale. And in March ’10 the , to be named Boundary Stone gave a talk to the community about the new space coming to 116 Rhode Island Avenue NW. And then – nothing. Presumably there have been delays in permitting or other such matters but it looks like things could be back on track. If memory serves, I believe they already were granted their liquor license so it’s not likely that will cause a delay. I’ll be sure to update as construction progresses.

Das Bullpen is located across from the Navy Yard Metro:

Anyone check it out yet? How does it compare to the Biergarten on H St, NE? Before going to a game would you recommend the original Bullpen or Das Bullpen?

On a side note, it seemed a shame that this whole area (even the beautiful Yards Park) with the exception of a few souls, was basically a ghost town on that beautiful Sunday we just had. It’s too bad these places aren’t open on non game days.

Great news for Park View and Petworth residents. The old Huron Pharmacy space (long vacant) at 3628 Georgia Ave, NW has been leased.

I don’t have a lot of details but I’m told it will be:

“2 floors, super comfy, neighborhood bar with a 1400 sq ft outdoor space in the rear. Comfort food, comfort atmosphere, comfortable prices.”

While they are shooting for a Fall opening, a lot is contingent on introducing themselves to the neighborhood/ANC meetings as well as acquiring the proper licenses and permits.

But the fact that the space has been leased is huge news! The vacant properties of Georgia Avenue are slowing falling one by one. More details when they become available.

This is the space between Manny & Olga’s and The Blue Banana and Looking Glass Lounge a couple blocks south of the Georgia Ave-Petworth metro:

Back in Dec. ’10 I was talking about how much I loved this building. I’m so psyched to hear of these new plans. And it sounds like the new owners are happy to talk with anyone who has concerns.

The description of the new place sounds very promising.  A recent liquor license application says:

“Casual and relaxed bistro restaurant serving an extensive Saturday & Sunday brunch with and total occupancy load of 259. Request a Sidewalk Café with 56 seats and Summer Garden with 14 seats. In addition, requesting an Entertainment Endorsement featuring recorded music and DJ.”

Sound good?

Back at the end of March we learned a few details about the bar that was coming to fill the old Social space at 14th and Meridian Pl, NW. I’ve got a few more details to share, starting with the name – The Getaway. You’ll may recall the 70s/80s car chase theme. I’m digging the name. You?

I’m also able to share some of the menu options which will include:

Wings, Calamari, Burgers, Crab cakes, Steak sliders, bbq, flatbreads, salads, fish, chicken, pasta/pesto and more.

The Getaway is still aiming to open in early May and I’ll post the menu in full when it is finalized at that time.

Back in early March we learned that the owners of Tonic would be opening up a new speakeasy called Last Exit in the space next to Tonic and under Radius at 3155 Mt. Pleasant St, NW. I was able to get a sneak preview in anticipation of the soft opening Thurs. night at 7pm (grand opening Apr. 28). You actually enter the space through Tonic:

Their Web site says:

Last Exit is an informal cocktail lounge located in Mount Pleasant DC. We feature unique cocktails, infusions, and specialty beers in a relaxed atmosphere. With its plush couches, chaise lounges, and intimate seating, Last Exit is a unique venue for private events and informal gatherings.

Last Exit is open 7 days a week 7pm to close.

Find the entrance to Last Exit at the bottom of the stairs in Tonic.

You can see their menus here including cocktails, beer (they have bottles and will have 6 taps), wine and small plates. Sound good?

I’m intrigued by the infusions.

Rosemary & Black Peppercorns infused vodka served on the rocks with a splash of tonic & paired w/ a side of Green Grapes

The space itself is pretty chill and has a capacity of around 35:

More photos after the jump. (more…)

Whenever I walk past this storefront 1841 Columbia Road NW I mean to ask you about it. I finally remembered. However, a quick google search shows that it closed back in 2008. Did anyone ever go when it was open?

Seems like a pretty good location, not far from Bedrock billiards, anyone know why (presumably) it’s been vacant for so long?

This section of Florida Ave, NW is booming. This new spot will be located between the recently opened Zee’s Restaurant and the “soon to be” Shaw’s Tavern. Bistro Bohem will be located at 1840 6th St, NW and the liquor license application says:

“New Restaurant serving European Bistro full range of full meals and light fare. Background music will be provided, no live entertainment. With a Sidewalk Café. Seating – 50, Total Occupancy Load – 65, Sidewalk Café – 24.”

Nice! Great to see so many vacant storefronts start to get filled in here. Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.
