From an email:

Acre 121 (the new bar that opened up where Commonwealth used to be) will be hosting a CD
release show/party for local bluegrass band, The Family Hammer, from 7-11 PM on Saturday.

The Family Hammer has been steadily building up a fan base in Washington, DC and will be releasing its new album, “Shake the Barnyard Down” at the show, which is free and open to the public.

Location: ACRE 121 – 1400 Irving Street, NW, Washington, DC
Time: ‎7:00PM Saturday, July 9th

When I first moved to DC – the $1 Buds on Thursday at Lucky Bar was supremely popular. I think it’s since been raised to $2 but it looks like we’re having a resurgence in $1 options. I was blown away by the all day $1 beers Mon. – Wed. at Hot N Juicy located at 2651 Connecticut Ave, NW in Woodley Park. Looks like we now got Thursday covered. Though the Madhatter option, located at 1321 Conn. Ave, NW, is only for Bud lights.

And in other Madhatter (building) news – looks like a yoga studio is coming to the third floor in the Fall:

Back in April I shared some scuttlebutt saying that a pizza pub from the Hilton brothers (Marvin, Gibson etc.) was coming to the little space behind the 9:30 club. Scuttlebutt was true. I’m happy to share a bit more info from a recent liquor license application:

New Tavern. Neighborhood Pizza place. Live Entertainment, Dancing, DJ, Summer Garden. Seating capacity is 99. Summer Garden capacity is 49. Total Occupancy Load is 148.

Sweet!

“It was one year ago this Thursday that Meridian Pint finally opened it’s doors to the Columbia Heights community and since then 11th Street has never been the same. Bringing such a wonderful blend of great food and craft beer to this area has been an amazing experience that we have all cherished. It is with great pleasure that I announce our 1st Anniversary Celebration this Thursday, June 31, 2011. Please join us in celebrating this milestone on Thursday as we offer all DC Brau beers for $3 all night long as well as tap their first ever cask.

I am proud to have been able to impact this community in such a positive way and I look forward to many more years as a member of this great neighborhood. Thank you for all your continued support and I look forward to seeing you soon.”

Meridian Pint, a PoP advertiser, is located at 11th and Park Rd, NW in Columbia Heights. Congrats!

“Dear PoP,

I walked by Quiet Mind Yoga today and noticed a bunch of tables with umbrellas on the patio below. A new fence had gone in out front recently, but I didn’t realize it might be for a bar. The man sitting at one of the tables told me the place (below the vintage clothing store) will be a bar. They were holding a pre-launch party for family and friends tonight. Do you know anything about it?”

I got a number of emails like this yesterday and I’m happy to say that it sounds like Zeba Bar and Grill is finally opening up at 3423 14th Street, NW. We’ve been anticipating their opening for a long time and in April I wrote:

The space was described to me as a bar with really good food rather than a restaurant that serves drinks. They will serve pizza, burgers, shish kabobs and other bar fare.

If they are open and anyone checks them out this weekend, be sure to send me an email and let me know what you think.

“Dear PoP,

Just wanted to let you know that Dodge City’s back patio is open [917 U St, NW]. It is two levels and awesome. I went there just the other night and was very impressed. The owner told me that it’s still a work in progress, but it looks great as it is at this point.”

Couple of cool details after the jump. (more…)

Yesterday we spoke about the huge score announced for the Capitol Riverfront area including a new Harris Teeter and seven restaurants.

Well, it looks like it’s only gonna get better. A very good source tells me that a Molly Malone’s (currently located at 713 8th St, SE on Barracks Row) and a Churchkey (currently located at 1337 14th St, NW in Logan Circle) will be announcing that they’ll be opening 2nd locations in the Boilmaker shops. I give this scuttlebutt a 72% accuracy rating. I’ll be sure to update when/if there is confirmation.

Is Capitol Riverfront going to become the next H Street, NE? I kid, I kid. But seriously are they?

UPDATE: The good people of Churchkey write:

“We will not, nor do we plan to replicate what to us is a very special and unique singular concept. What was released by The Yards developers on Monday is accurate. Neighborhood Restaurant Group will be opening a Buzz Bakery as well as a new, craft brewery in that space.”

Back in the end of March we had a pre preview of the space and the transformation is amazing. Lost Society will be opening up on Friday at the corner of 14th and U St, NW. I was fortunate to get a media preview and took tons of photos. You can see their menus here. Straightaway – I can say the space looks amazing, the oysters were delicious and I’m super psyched about their huge roof deck. As always the photos do a better job than I can do with my words.

Lots more photos after the jump – including one of the best new roof decks in town. (more…)
