Check out the Brixton starting to take shape at 9th and U St, NW. The Brixton is of course one the projects from the Hilton brothers (Marvin, Gibson, Blackbyrd etc.) On that note I visited Chez Billy’s coming to Petworth and all I’m gonna say is that even in it’s skeletal shape – well it blew me away. Stay tuned on both fronts… Actually one more front, I passed The Independent also from the Hilton brothers coming to 715 Florida Ave, NW and major construction has been accomplished there as well.

Standard is located at the corner of 14th and S St, NW. You can see their menu here. How’s the bbq? Anyone try the donuts yet?

Full disclosure – after I took the photo above they gave me an apple cider donut. It’s hard for me to judge because I was starving at the time but in the .2 seconds it took me to devour it, I thought it was delicious.

From an email:

“Bar Dupont is giving Washingtonians, beer aficionados and visitors alike another reason to strap on their lederhosen and celebrate fall by hosting a two-day Oktoberfest beer festival out on the Bar Patio from Saturday, October 22 (11:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.) until Sunday, October 23 (11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.).
Following a tradition that started in Germany in the early 1880s, Bar Dupont’s Oktoberfest will offer four choices of both German and American draught beer for only $5 a beer mug or $20 a pitcher. The following beers will be included on the special Oktoberfest menu:

Warsteiner – Oktoberfest
Konig Ludwig – Weissbier
Harpoon – Octoberfest
New Belgium – Hoptober-fest

What’s an Oktoberfest without some palatable German cuisine? Savory sausages and bockwursts will be grilled fresh outside on the patio. Other German favorites, including soft pretzels, a variety of original German mustards and traditional garnishes, tangy sauerkraut and exceptional German potato salad will all be part of this one weekend Oktoberfest extravaganza.

Don’t let the weekend’s weather forecast prevent you from attending this exciting beer festival as the picnic tables on the patio will have heaters and/or umbrellas on a need be basis. Popular German music will be playing through the patio sound system so bring your dancing loafers and be ready to polka!

“Dodge City (917 U St. NW) is firing up its grill this Sunday, October 16th at 1PM in honor of our new Sunday opening hours! Every Sunday we will be projecting the Burgundy and Gold on the big screen and serving sausages from our friends at 13th Street Meats. We have the Hot Italian Pork and Lemon Basil Chicken varieties, as well as veggie burgers for sale while you enjoy the game or lounge on our patio!”

Jackie Lee’s Lounge is located at 116 Kennedy Street, NW. A recent liquor license says that it it a:

“Restaurant and nightclub serving American cuisine.”

I imagine the walls here could tell the most amazing stories we’ve ever heard. And I’ve now found one of my new favorite city signs:

According to a recent liquor license application It’s Called INCEPTION is applying for a Tavern license and will be:

“New Tavern. Tavern/Pub style menu. Live entertainment including DJ and occasional live music and dancing. Occupancy load is 399. Summer Garden 100 seats and Sidewalk Café 35 seats.”

I believe 645 Florida Ave, NW used to be a wig store. It will be interesting to see who opens first, Inception or the nearby Shaw’s Tavern located at 520 Florida Ave, NW. I’m guessing a significant build out will be required for this new tavern. Who do you think will open first? Stay tuned.

Mason Inn recently opened up in the former Gin & Tonic space at 2408 Wisconsin Ave NW. Their Web site says:

“Mason Inn is a Washington D.C watering hole frequented by young professionals, D.C natives, and transplants from the South. Nestled in the Glover Park neighborhood of Upper Georgetown, Mason Inn is a comfortable place to watch sporting events, listen to live music, and enjoy hand-crafted cocktails. Mason Inn’s unique features include a 50 foot long oak bar, brick-adorned walls, numerous flat screen televisions, plush seating, and a stage and dancefloor for nightly live music and Djs. Regarded as the Washington D.C area’s top private event venue, Mason Inn is available for birthday parties, fundraisers, concerts and corporate events seven nights a week.”

You can see their menu here.

They’ll also have live music:

“Mason Inn’s location, 2408 Wisconsin Avenue, has a rich history of live music. For nearly forty years, the building housed the historic Washington D.C live music venue Grog and Tankard.

Carrying on in that tradition of live music, Mason Inn often hosts bands from across the country and the Washington D.C area. With a large stage and dancefloor, Mason Inn is an intimate venue for live music acts. Aside from live music, Mason Inn has talented DJs every Thursday-Saturday night.”

Anyone check them out yet?
