I feel like the old Capitol Hill Art and Frame shop has been vacant for ages at 623 Pennsylvania Ave, SE next to Pound the Hill. It finally has a tenant – Beuchert’s Saloon. The liquor license application posted out front says:

“A full service restaurant & Bar serving local, farm-fresh menu items prepared for lunch, brunch and dinner 7 days a week with a seating capacity of 47 for patrons and a total load of 61. Request a summer garden with 20 seats.”

Sounds promising!

From an email:

For years we’ve been touring the country crowing champions at the art of making love to an invisible person, persons or thing. Our show is simple – contestants sign up with a stage name and a song choice then they have about 2 minutes to show us what they’ve got. A panel of judges (comprised of touring comedians) rate their performance and in the end an individual is crowed the DC Air Sex Champion.

Thanks to our pals at the Rock and Roll Hotel, America’s new favorite pastime is coming back to the capital city. We’re looking for competitors, we’re looking for audience members, we’re looking for a good time. Our show is Tuesday July 3rd at 9:00p. As always, Air Sex is hosted by nationally touring comedian Chris Trew.

600 F St, NW

A new cocktail lounge is coming next door to the recently opened Fuel Pizza at 600 F St, NW. A liquor license application says:

“This is a new Class “C” Tavern. This venue will be a Cocktail Lounge. There will be light food service. Entertainment will include recorded music and live music. There is a cover charge.
The seating capacity is 45. The total capacity is 144.”

More details as they become available.

Back in the day the Bottoms Up bar, located at 2309 18th St, NW, used to have an upside down woman in their front window. Now they have a duck out front. I felt that was worth sharing on the Friday before a three-day weekend…

Any fans of Pi Pizzeria or the bar downstairs?

2102 18th Street, NW

Back in March 2012 I shared some scuttlebutt saying that the old Duchess and The Queen at 2102 18th Street, NW in Adams Morgan was possibly going to become a wine bar. A new liquor license posting has more details:

“The new restaurant will be a Belgium bistro, with a sidewalk Café with 12 seats, the establishment will have a seating capacity of 160, and a total occupancy load of 280. There is an entertainment endorsement. This will also include a Brew Pub.”

Awesome!

Pre-Tour de Fat Happy Hour at the Pug:

“Thursday, May 24th, 2012
7:00pm – 9:00pm | FREE!
1234 H Street NE

The Pug is hosting an event with the Washington Area Bicyclying Association and New Belgium brewery this Thursday from 7-9. We’ll have three New Belgium beers on tap, Tart Lychee, Somersault, and Fat Tire Amber, plus Shift Pale Lager and Ranger IPA in tall boy cans. There will be a raffle at 9 pm for a New Belgium cruiser bike, $5 tickets to enter, and all ticket proceeds will be donated to WABA. Should be a great time, and it’s one of the few opportunities folks in DC will have to try the Tart Lychee beer.”

See all of tonight’s and the week’s events here.  To add your event, click the events tab up top and then click “add an event”.  You can add concerts, museum/gallery exhibits, fundraisers, sporting events, bike rides etc. Add anything you think will be of interest to PoPville.

1512 U St, NW

Back in Dec. 2011 we learned that Habitat was closing at 1512 U St, NW. A new business called Merlot’s Masterpiece is moving into the space:

Merlot’s Masterpiece is a new painting experience in Washington, D.C. where you can paint, enjoy wine, and a fun night out with friends and good company.

No experience required! We provide the art supplies, canvas and aprons. At the end of the session, you will take home your one of a kind masterpiece.

Reminds me a bit of ArtJamz in Dupont.

Merlot’s Masterpiece’s calender lists a June 2nd soft opening and June 8th grand opening.

Do you think something like this is a nice fit and will do well on U Street?
