816 H St, NE

HR-57’s brief sojourn has ended at 816 H St, NE. According to a recent liquor license application that space will now be know as Fever Bar and Lounge:

“New Tavern bar/lounge with entertainment that includes occasional live bands, DJ, dancing and cover charge. Food will typically consist of a short southern menu such as chicken wings, greens, mac and cheese, etc. Occupancy load is 99.”

HR-57’s new digs are located at 1007 H St, NE:

It’s actually two storefront combined:

1926 9th St, NW

Back in March we learned that Cause was going to move into the old La Carbonara space at 1926 9th St, NW. While they’re still a couple months away from opening, they’ve made a lot of progress renovating the space (which they’re doing themselves!) For those who don’t recall, Cause:

is a bar like you’ve never seen. We call it a PhilanthroPub. It works like this:

Step 1: You come to Cause; eat, drink, and be merry

Step 2: Cause pays its staff, covers all operating costs

Step 3: Cause takes ALL of the remaining profit, and gives it to vetted nonprofit organizations

If you’d like to donate you can do so here, you can get your own barstool, table or beer for a year if you’re feeling very generous. They’ve raised over $15,000 and counting.

Here’s a peek inside the space:

9th and U St, NW

Back in Oct. 2011 I suspected the roof deck coming to the Brixton at 9th and U St, NW was gonna be awesome. Let me amend that suspicion – the roof deck is going to be completely freaking amazing, it’s got two bars on the roof alone! And the rest of the space ain’t bad either…

I’ve probably been getting a half a dozen emails a week since last year asking for updates on the Brixton. I’m happy to say they are just a few weeks from opening, I’ll update with an exact date when it is finalized.

Here’s what it looked like in 2009:

Check out how it’s shaping up:

3412 11th St, NW

Back in Feb. 2012 I shared the news that the PORC food truck was opening a brick and mortar restaurant in Columbia Heights in the old Aquario space at 3412 11th St, NW (next to Meridian Pint.) We previously learned:

Brought to you by the founders of popular food truck, Purveyors of Rolling Cuisine (PORC), Josh Saltzman and Trent Allen; along with fellow U of Michigan alum Chris Powers and DC-native Peyton Sherwood.

Kangaroo Boxing will be the establishment everyone wishes for their own neighborhood. A nice relaxed atmosphere, quality and consistent menu options and a solid selection of beer and wine.

The name, Kangaroo Boxing Club, comes from long-running, drink-infused, late-night bar discussions on the fact that, without technology, man is physically unable to compete with the majority of the animal kingdom. How would you win a match with a kangaroo?

I’m happy to say they’ll be open very soon. I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek and share some photos. Stay tuned for the opening and the full menu in the next couple of weeks.

From an email:

Kick off summer with our favorite patio activity: Deep Frying.

Thursday, June 7 at 9 PM we’ll be frying our favorite decadent traisures like Twinkies, Snickers, Oatmeal Cream Pies, etc. Feel free to bring your own treats and we’ll batter, dip, sugar and sprinkle ‘em (remember to freeze them first). The Duchess of Pork DJ’s will make it rocky and funky to keep your sweet tooth aching all night!

From Biergartenhaus 1355 H Street, NE

Euro 2012 starts this Friday. The fine folks from Marx Cafe at 3203 Mount Pleasant St, NW will be showing all the games on an HD projector in Mt. Pleasant. Biegartenhaus on H St, NE, and Lucky Bar (1221 Connecticut Ave, NW) are always fun spots but also always very crowded. For fans – where will you watch?

From gintender.com:

A Fond Farewell to THE FRUIT BAT

Dear Fellow Drinkers and Gintender Faithful,

We opened Fruit Bat two years ago as a way to share my Colombian heritage through fresh South American cocktails and food. It was a fun experiment, a fusion of great drinks and complementary cuisine.

H Street NE continues to evolve, and I’m eager to build a new idea. Saturday, June 9th, will be Fruit Bat’s last night.

We’d love for you to join us to celebrate and say goodbye to Fruit Bat. Beginning next Tuesday, June 5th, we’re offering every drink in the bar for $5 from 5-7 p.m. and Summer Punch for $4 all night, every night until we close. Sincere thanks to all our patrons who have dined and drunk with us over the last two years.

We will close for renovation and reopen July 1st. To welcome the new concept, we will hold several private opening parties the first week. Please stop by Fruit Bat next week to add your name to the guest list! If you’d like to track our progress, we invite you to follow us on twitter @mysterybardc.

Church & State, upstairs at 1236 H, will be open during renovation and will now be open Tuesday-Saturday. Follow @churchstatedc to get info about upcoming events and specials for the summer.
