Some folks have been asking about where to watch the debates so here’s a few options I’ve got via email. If you know of other good spots please let us know.

Duffy’s Irish Pub will be showing them in the back room at 2106 Vermont Avenue, NW by the 9:30 Club.

Cashion’s Eat Place (1819 Columbia Road, NW): “We’ll be airing each of the first three debates (Oct. 3, Oct. 10, Oct. 16) with sound at the bar so guests can cheer on their candidate of choice while enjoying our new fall cocktails, Chef’s new bar menu, and our full dinner menu.”

The Lobby Bar at The Madison (1177 15th Street, NW): “The Republicans and Democrats may be battling it out on the road, but there’s no debate about it, the best place in D.C. to catch the Presidential and Vice Presidential debates is at the Lobby Bar at PostScript in the historic Madison hotel.

Catch all of the debates at the Madison while sipping on the Great Debate (Small Batch Bourbon, Blended Vermouth, Green Chartreuse, Orange Peel), created by Chief Mixologist Rob Yealu for $14.00.

Presidential and Vice Presidential Debate Schedule:
Presidential Debate, October 3, 2012, 9:00 pm – 10:30 pm
Vice Presidential Debate, October 11, 2012, 9:00 pm – 10:30 pm
Presidential Debate, October 16, 2012, 9:00 pm – 10:30 pm
Presidential Debate, October 22, 2012, 9:00 pm – 10:30 pm”

1370 H St, NE

A new liquor license has been posted outside the former Rose’s Dream space at 1370 H St, NE:

“New Tavern. For young professionals and patrons seeking social/live entertainment, private events. Providing chips and pretzels and occasionally host catering groups. Entertainment, dancing and cover charge. Rooftop Summer Garden 60 seats. Occupancy load is 102″

Marvin, 2007 14th St, NW has expanded into the 2nd floor space of Blackbyrd at 2005 14th St, NW – from Marvin’s liquor license amendment:

“Expansion of the operation on the second floor to the adjacent building at 2005 14th Street, NW (additional 87 seats).”

The folks at Marvin tell me:

“The original lounge has been updated and converted to a private dining room and the new lounge, the former 2nd floor of Blackbyrd will be the home of the DJ booth. So we can now book private dinners up to 40 people; host late night events and created a better flow to the roofdeck spaces.”

Sweet.

I can’t believe it has already been five years since Marvin first opened at 14th and U Street.

1426 L St, NW

Back in June we learned that Roc Bar would be opening in the former Reserve space next to the Post Pub. The three story space will be opening up tonight.

Their website says:

Local Restaurantuer, Jason McCarther returns to the District with his new project, Roc Bar. McCarther comes with 20 plus years of experience back to Washington, D.C., with his veteran staff opening the newest nightclub lounge, featuring 3 floors of the most luxurious entertainment in the L Street corridor. McCarther can add this to his list of 6 previous accomplished venues. McCarther also gives back to the local community by hosting local charity fundraisers with a twist. Being a father of two children, he knows that being involved in the local community is important.

Each floor will have its own distinct sound playing different musical genres with 3 independent DJ’s. Electric Euro-style light will be found throughout show casing computer controlled beat detection, and the latest in nightclub LED lighting, for your pleasure. “Roc Bar” will feature the highest qualities services and amenities offering VIP areas, table and bottle service. VIP openings will be by invitation only. Exclusive parties, famous DJ’s will be spinning with an invite only list. This highly anticipated nightclub will be opening at the end of September.

11th and U St, NW

The folks at Solly’s tell me they’ll be grilling out on the patio this Sunday starting at 12:30. You can catch the games upstairs or at the bar. On the grill from 13th Street Meats:

“Burgers $6, Hot Dogs $3, Wings $5, Half Smokes $8 with all the fixings plus Chili.”

And in more good news their expansion should open in 3-4 weeks.
