Coolest Pet in PoPville 2009 People’s Pick, Ike

It is time for the Coolest Pet in PoPville 2010 competition! For those not familiar with this highly anticipated contest the rules are simple – you may send in 1 photo of each pet you own (no more than 3 total). There are three standard categories: Dog, Cat, and Other plus a new category this year – multiple pets. If you have a few pets feel free to get a shot of them all together for this new category. However the winner of the overall contest will come from the Dog, Cat or Other category.

Send a photo of your pet to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com and in the title please say “2010 PoPville Pet Contest – Dog” or Cat or Multiple or Other. If you would like to include a sentence or two about your pet that would be great but is not required. The process is simple – all pets will get an initial group post, if one is particularly striking let me know in the comments. A selection of 5-10 pets per category will make it into the finals for each category. At the very end the winner of each category will face off for title of Coolest Pet in PoPville. In addition to bragging rights, the people’s pick and editor’s pick will have t-shirts made up with their picture on the shirt. (Have you seen Ike or Dr. Dre shirts around town?) Here are the 2009 dog finalists, cat finalists, and ‘other’ finalists or all the posts from the 2009 Coolest Pet in PoPville competition here.

Good luck!

Oops, next year I promise to post before the event takes place!

From a press release:

Tenleytown’s Z-Burger ushered in the 4th of July weekend by celebrating American culture with a hearty dose of competition and burgers. On Thursday, July 1st Z-Burger welcomed 12 contestants to go “burger to burger” in their Second Annual Independence Burger Eating Championship.

Interested eaters completed an application process conducted by Z-Burger to claim a spot in the match. The 12 lucky chosen contestants traveled by foot, car and plane to take on the challenge. In 10 minutes time, each contender had to down as many 2.8 pound Z-Burgers as possible. They were even monitored for two minutes after the race as part of the “regurgitation = disqualification” policy.

The race was neck and neck for many of the hopefuls but in the end it was last year’s first place champion that again came out on top. Swallowing 23 burgers, Pete Czerwinski “Furious Pete” of Ontario was crowned the first place champion taking home $3,000 cash and $1,500 in Z-Burger food vouchers.

The second and third place winners finished close behind Pete. Dale Boone “The Mouth of the South,” of Atlanta reclaimed the second place seat finishing with 21 burgers and took home $1,500 cash and $750 in Z-Burger food vouchers. Making his contest debut, Brian Dudzinski “Dud Light” of Phoenixville, PA consumed 20 burgers to finish in third place taking home $750 cash and $500 in Z-Burger food vouchers.

All top three contestants received custom-made Z-Burger trophies. They will also have the option and be encouraged to donate food prizes to local charities of their choice.

Z-Burger completed the celebration with free burgers for all customers following the event.

This one may be a bit more difficult than previous contests but I think there is potential for some really good ones. I might be wrong, but just looking at the photo is making me laugh.  Good luck, winner picked Friday!

The 2nd annual Ebbit Grill Block Party is June 19th this year. The organizers have been kind enough to give away 2 VIP Tickets to a PoP reader.

For those that didn’t win you can still get $10 off regular tickets if you use the following code:

“The promo code will be POPBLOCK2010 and will be good for $10 off each ticket purchase through the website through 6/16/10.”

Congrats to Emily who wins with her favorite festival and meal:

“My favorite festival has always been and always will be my hometown’s annual celebration, Founder’s Day. I’m from the middle of nowhere in Indiana, a town with a population of about 300 people. Yes, three hundred. Every year we have a festival with flea market vendors, bouncy castles, bluegrass music and a parade. There are little pageant queens and the oldest residents being pulled by tractors and real cattle farmers on horseback.

The best part, though, is the Cobbler’s Bench where all the ladies of the town donate a pie or a cobbler and then it’s sold by the slice to benefit the Community Improvement Association.

A Founder’s Day meal – Taco in a Bag, Lemon Shake Up and Apple Pie for dessert!”

Emily please email me directly so I can get you on the list.
