“Dear PoP,

I am starting a new group for all types of artists to collaborate with each other for diverse new projects in DC. I announced the effort via craigslist yesterday, and have already received emails from 15 interested artists. I need some help from community bloggers to communicate to a wider audience.”

Full details after the jump. (more…)

Thanks to flickr user Scenic Artisan, Sean, for uploading these cool photos.

And nearby on the 3900 Block of Legation St, NW is this cool little building. Sean writes:

“It was apparently from the national mall. i’m still awaiting the story how it got there.”

And help a reader find her camera:

“Dear PoP,

I know it’s a long shot but … a drunk Sunday night turned into losing a camera. We re-traced our steps and realized it either fell out of my bfs pocket on the way to our car (parked at Harriet Tubman) from Wonderland or getting out of the car (which we moved because we were in a school zone) on 11th between Monroe and Otis.

The camera is a Canon S90 and something we can probably replace (although the camera is awesome!) but the pictures are irreplaceable – a best friends wedding, Twins game, an engagement celebration, Juicy Lucys in Minnesota and various other important events.

Any ideas or thoughts on what we should do?”

Anyone know of someone who found an S90 I’m sure the reader would be happy just getting the memory card back.

From a press release:

Idea:Exchange, AED’s new space dedicated to dialogue, is an effort to explore how the exchange of ideas can create the foundations for powerful social change. The forum aims to stimulate and promote open, deliberative discussions on social and development issues.

AED will inaugurate Idea:Exchange with a thought-provoking photo exhibit titled The Way We See It: Young Photographers Examine, Define and Change Their World, which includes work from AED, Critical Exposure and Josh Schachter. The exhibit showcases photos taken by children and youth from D.C. and around the world who used the art of photography to reveal their lives, speak out about social issues, and advocate for better public policies.

One collection in the exhibit was shot by D.C. students as an expression of their reasons for leaving and ultimately returning school. In another, youth in Mali, West Africa recorded their village life. And photos taken by refugee and immigrant youth in Tucson, Arizona highlight critical social issues in their lives and communities. The exhibit will be open Wednesdays through Fridays, June 18 through September 3, from 2-7PM.

A lecture series on the exhibit will take place at the AED Globe Theater from June 22 through July 31. The first lecture, on June 22 from 5:30-7:30PM, will be a conversation with the three exhibitors, and will offer a behind the scenes look at The Way We See It.
