Look, I can stop putting up wind chimes anytime I want. I just happen to like the soothing sound of chimes crashing into one another on windy evening. So is that so wrong? Alright, I don’t like to judge but isn’t it well known that one is generally not supposed to display more than three wind chimes at a time? Isn’t that in a statute somewhere?

You have a heat lamp on your porch! Are you kidding me? That is awesome! I wonder how much they go for? I guess you could probably get one at Home Depot, yeah? Anyway, this is the first one I have ever seen at a private residence. And it is beautiful in all respects.

Now, this is going to be one well lit porch. I actually made the same mistake in my bathroom I got lights put in above the mirror and on the ceiling. It is ridiculously bright if you turn both on. But I think these porch lights actually look really good.

Speaking of porch lights it really bothers me when people don’t turn on the porch lights. I have a neighbor that has one that turns on automatically whenever anyone walks by and that is the bomb. But, if you don’t have one of those, doesn’t it bother you when people don’t turn on their porch lights? It is a simple move that makes the street feel a whole lot safer when everyone has them on…

I was admiring this house when the owner walks up with a couple of cups of coffee. He naturally looks at me as though I am slightly insane but fortunately I have become used to that look. At any rate, I ask him if he minds if I photograph his vestibule. Without hesitation he says sure no problem. So I walk up his walkway towards the door and he says “woah, where’s the vestibule?”. Ha! That is beautiful. I show him the area with the dope sky tiling. Truth be known I wouldn’t know what a vestibule was if I wasn’t a stock boy in my youth at Richmindway (the CVS of my town) and often told to sweep the vestibule. The first time I was told to sweep a vestibule I’m sure I had a look on my face similar to the one the owner of this house had. But anyway, this tiling is ridiculous no? Whoever else has a sweet vestibule send me a photo. For some reason I just can’t get enough of these. Can you tell how cool this tiling is?

Why are these steps wood? Is it for aesthetics or is it just cheaper? Won’t you have to replace the wood every 5-10 years? I just can’t quite figure out why they used wood here. Does it even match the house? Thoughts?

So far we’ve seen lions, pinapples, and the Virgin Mary protecting the doorways of many neighborhood homes. Now, we can add snowmen to this list. But do you think they are seasonal? Come Spring do you think the snowmen will rotate out?

These are some brand new homes that claim to be historically inspired. But you can see toward the end of the photo just how much they clash with the actual historical homes. Am I wrong. Check out the sign claiming historical inspiration after the jump. (more…)

The atrocious renovation on Sherman is looking a bit better. They put in some really nice slate steps and as someone noted last week the bars on the side of the house are pretty stylish. So I’ll file this under, it’s still a shame but it could have been a lot worse.
