Congrats to Sam with:

“NASA found DC’s pothole riddled streets to be the perfect training ground for the Mars Rover.”

and runner up to Collin with:

“Huh, well that’s funny. This looks nothing like the streetcars we ordered in the catalog.”

You can pick up your t-shirts at the spring happy hour at Social (14th and Meridian Streets, NW).

Ed. Note: I’m fighting a bit of a head cold and sore throat so I’m going to the Irish Whiskey straight away at 7pm, if you get to the hh past 9pm I’d like to apologize in advance for anything I might say…

Just a reminder that the PoP spring happy hour is tomorrow night at Social (14th and Meridian Streets, NW – Columbia Heights Metro). It’s fixing to be a good time. I’ve picked the special drink suggested by Minnie:

“How about a gin sidecar? Equal parts gin, Triple Sec, lemon/lime juice. A sprig of mint if you’re feeling fancy.

And of course, you’ll need a snappy name. If it’s made with lemon, it’s the Yellow Line; if it’s made with lime, it’s the Green Line. Yum!”

We’ll call it the Green Line and Minne you get a PoP t-shirt for picking the winner. Also $1 from this drink will be donated to CentroNia (http://www.centronia.org/html/about_us.html).

Looking forward to meeting many of you!

Ed. Note: The photo above was taken from the photography competition ‘Portraits of DC’. The 51 winners are exhibited at Social and they had an opening reception last night though you’ll be able to see them tomorrow night. It was packed! Photos from the event after the jump. (more…)

I’ve been meaning to schedule this happy hour for a long time but hopefully this is gonna be worth the wait. The folks at Social (14th and Meridian Streets, NW) have been very generous in offering up their space for the happy hour. The happy hour will take place Thursday, April 29th from 7-10pm. Happy hour prices will be extended for the event. And here’s something even cooler – they’ve agreed to create a PoP cocktail for the event and everytime somebody orders one they will donate a $1 to a charity of our choice.

So I need your help with this. First, any suggestions for a springlike cocktail (I’m thinking something with gin). And, which local charity should we give the donation to? I’d like it to have something to do with children if possible. Leave your suggestions in the comments and I’ll make a selection close to the date.

So mark your calendars for the next PoP happy hour – Thurs. April 29th at Social from 7 – 10pm. If I owe you a PoP t-shirt you can pick it up here and t-shirts will also be available for purchase if you’d like. Hope to see many of you here!

Ready Set DC has started a monthly event called Art of the Blog. The event will focus on different areas (food, neighborhoods, art, music etc.). Anyway first up is neighborhoods. I’m looking forward to talking about what it is exactly that I do along with And Now, Anacostia blogger, David Garber. It’s starts a bit on the early side but should be fun. I’m hoping there will be a significant question and answer section so feel free to ask me anything (personal or professional) on your mind!

Friday, February 26th from 6 to 8pm
At DISTRICT | 2473 18th Street NW

I gotta say Twitter really was amazing during the storm. There was terrific info from district agencies like @DDOTDC and of course the residents of many neighborhoods around town. I just wanted to share one insane story. A reader tweeted me asking about Comcast going down this morning. Not 5 minutes later a Comcast employee tweeted back (from Philly) to both of us letting us know what was going on with Comcast. Totally wild. For the record, the reader’s Comcast is now working.

Anyone else find twitter super useful during the storms?

If you’d like to follow PoPville on twitter you can do so here.

Thanks to everyone who helped celebrate at Wonderland. And thanks to all the great readers and tipsters who help keep the site up to date on DC’s neighborhoods. Based on some feedback you can see some slight upgrades to the site on Friday. Based on feedback I have made it easier to find specific neighborhoods and within neighborhoods – restaurants, real estate, architecture and crime posts. I will likely be making a few tweaks to it but I hope you find it more easily navigable. You’ll also notice that you can now rate particular posts and see specific comment threads in a more coherent way.

But again, thanks to all who have helped PoP reach this anniversary.
