I like it, straight to the point. Libations, that’s an underused word. It’s not as cool as “cool wine” but it’s close.

A bit on the bizarre side. So who can come up with the best interpretation for this one? I’d say it reminds me of our current President.

It looks really good surrounded by the stones, yeah? I wish I knew there were options for security doors like this before I put in my standard ones years ago. Style and function, who’d a thunk it?

This is not my alter ego, this really is my attorney, a degenerate but my attorney nonetheless. As you may have guessed, this feature is in part a tribute to the late great Hunter S. Thompson. To answer his question up front – Drive by Truckers from July 2006 was the greatest show I’ve ever caught at 9:30 club. Add your favorite shows in the comments section.

Hey PoP…
So I’m sitting here enjoying a fine glass of Powers and
sorting through a week’s worth of emailed gibberish…it seems last
week was “What White People Like” week since every other fool with an
email account sent me a link to that site or passed along their
favorite one. But, it got me thinking and laughing about a list of
“What DC People Like” which, of course, led to the obligatory
political jokes and some thoughts about the sweating, jabbering hordes
of perpetually lost tourists that descend on our fair city around this
time of year.

But as I thought about it further — and maybe it was at least helped
by the whiskey — my mind kind of drifted into some reminiscing and
more serious thoughts about what I really liked about DC. So allow me
to bend your ear (er, eye?) for a minute on this since one thing in
particular kept floating up to the top of my thoughts: the 9:30 Club.
As a self-confessed and unrepentant music addict, I feel qualified to
sing the praises of what I consider to be the single best spot for
live music in the city. The sound in that place is simply unrivaled.
They pull in great bands that just seem to really enjoy playing in
that place. I’d love to know the secret to the sound in there and
what bands actually think of it. Praise for 9:30 Club Continues After the Jump (more…)

See another finished photo and a before photo after the jump. The owner writes:

“The job required doubling the amount of space of the previous bathroom.

This is the master bath in my bedroom.

– I found and selected all of the materials. I wanted a Zen experience every morning to start the day off peacefully.

– Petworth resident Carlos Lemos was the contractor.

– Whenever possible, recycled or reclaimed materials were used. The wood 2x4s for the framing were salvaged from a skateboard park. I picked up the tile for the wall off of Craigs List from a woman who bought too much. The custom made vanity is made from salvaged wood that had been in an old country church in Amish country.

– The pebble stones are not salvaged. But they are heated by radiant heating underneath, to warm the feet.

– The shower has a curved wall and bench.

– The sinks are hand hammered in China.” (more…)

Thanks to a number of readers for sending me this info. I think we may have heard this rumor a while ago because it sounds familiar to me. The Washington Business Journal says: “Restaurant owner Andy Shallal plans to open a 6,000-square-foot eatery at D.C.’s The Flats at Union Row, just across the street from Busboys and Poets, his restaurant at 2021 14th St. NW.” Did we already know about this?

Don’t ask me how, but I somehow finagled my way into a VIP tour of the stadium today. Although it was pretty funny with me wearing a bright red flannel shirt surrounded by suits that cost more than my car. Anyway, it was pretty fresh. Now, I consider myself a pretty big Nats fan but growing up in New York, going to Yankees games, I would get goose bumps, and still do, whenever I walk into the stadium. I did not get any goose bumps in this new stadium. However, it is crisp and plenty beautiful. I got to visit the club house and locker room (unfortunately no pictures were allowed there.) I also got to walk through the bullpen and onto the field past the dugout all the way to home plate. And all I can say is, I am psyched for the season to start. The grass itself was incredible. It is Kentucky something or other and cost $1.7 million or something like that. The big screen tv above center field is truly gigantic. There was still a bit of final touches going on, you can see from the photo that they were still working on the pitching mound. I couldn’t find a Ben’s Chili Bowl sign but there were lots of other interesting food options (all oddly with goofy names like Senators Sausages and names like that.) There is one thing especially awesome about this stadium for us. It is on the Green Line! It is so easy to get here. It took me like 20 minutes to get to the stadium. Beautiful. It may be too late for me, but hopefully one day a future son of mine will get goosebumps upon entering. See lots more photos after the jump. (more…)

NevinKelly Gallery is one of those places I’ve walked by a thousand times, always intrigued, yet never stopping. Well, I’m glad I finally stopped and headed into the Gallery located at 1517 U Street. I had the chance to chat with owner, Mr. Nevin Kelly. The gallery has been open for five years. Mr. Kelly chose the location because he liked the energy and the rebirth of the U Street neighborhood. Interestingly, Mr. Kelly normally exhibits many artists from Poland, and the rebirth of the U Street neighborhood reminded him a bit of the rebirth going on in Poland.

When I stopped in there was an exhibit called Water Media On Paper which was a traveling exhibit by National Career Award Finalists. Sorry to report that this super cool exhibit closed on Sunday but next week Mr. Kelly will exhibit more of his standard artists who tend to be more contemporary and/or abstract. Don’t be afraid to stop in like I was, Mr. Kelly could not possibly have been nicer. More photos after the jump including another dog in a window. You see it is a trend. (more…)

Thanks to my attorney for sending me the link to this sweet map from the Washington Post. It maps out the metro and possible future street car routes. It’s got street cars cruising all the way up Georgia Ave past Shaw, Park View, Petworth all the way up to Silver Spring. That would be pretty cool, yeah?
