A reader suggested I integrate some polls into PoP so I thought I’d give it a go. This is really a test poll and I’m not sure how many answers will be recorded but let’s see what happens. Obviously PoP started out focusing on Petworth but today coverage has expanded to include many other neighborhoods. I thought I’d take a quick poll to see where folks are from. Thanks.

Today’s theme is…if I had a million dollars. So many great places to live in Washington, DC–particularly in the Petworth/Columbia Heights/Mount Pleasant area–and yet, if you’re within my non-profit wage range, anyway, so many places that are just out of reach financially. So here they are–the apartments I’d want to rent if I worked for profit.

Patios and levels. That’s what this two bedroom, two bath offers–perks that I wish were standard. Also designer halogen lighting, industrial exposed spiral ducts (I’m not exactly sure what those are, but they sound cool regardless), and commercial stained concrete floors. The master bedroom can be gotten to from an iron spiral staircase. Loft living, ho.

The patio is private, and comes complete with a four person jacuzzi tub.

Going for $2,900, located on Lamont street. More rentals after the jump. (more…)

Murals DC “has been created to replace illegal graffiti with artistic works, to revitalize sites within communities in DC and to teach young people the art of aerosol painting.” This great program had its kickoff on Saturday at 2407 Georgia Ave. The event featured DJ Kool (who was amazing), some fresh breakdancing and of course some mural prepping and painting. What an awesome program, yeah? I got tons of cool photos after the jump.

I’m saddened to write about another apparent day time shooting. From a reader:

“I woke up to the sound of a gunshot this morning right outside my apartment at 18th & Kalorama. I wasn’t entirely sure that it was a gunshot – in fact largely convinced myself I was mistaken – but then when I headed outside about a half hour later, I found the whole area crawling with police and criss-crossed with yellow tape.  I was curious if you have any other info on what happened, or could find out for me. It is really disconcerting to see your home turf cordoned off as a serious crime area, especially in broad daylight.”

At 12:56pm a DC Alert message went out:

” MPD reports the following blocks closed for police investigation:
2200-2500 18th St. NW, 1600-1800 Columbia Rd. NW, 1700-1800 Belmont
Rd. NW; 1700-1800 Kalorama Rd NW.”

Anyone know if a suspect was apprehended?

Thanks to DC Direwolf for sending.

On a related note, I was talking to a 78 year old cab driver Sat. night and somehow this topic came up. Well he told me in 1947 Shaw was filled with cows, goats, horses and of course chickens. It’s wild to imagine goats and cows in people’s back yards in Shaw. In the meantime I’ll hope to be lucky enough to run into our 11th Street celebrity chicken. So what shall we name it?
