“For all your loyal readers who practice yoga (of which I feel safe to assume there are a few), a great yoga apparel store is opening across from Whole Foods on P street” (1515 Fifteenth St).

I’m pretty sure a friend of mine who does yoga is infatuated with this store. Anyone familiar with it?

I know I’ve shown a different angle of that cylindrical building in the past but I think it could be one of the most amazing new buildings I’ve seen in DC. So I think I may have two more angles left…

And it looks like it may have the coolest roof deck in DC as well…

A reader writes with a link to NotionsCapital:

“Ben’s Next Door (1211 U Street, NW) was a club where jazz legend Ferdinand “Jelly Roll” Morton played from 1936 to 1938.”

A bit more history from the article:

“U Street NW was Washington’s “Black Broadway” long before Ben Ali served his first chili dog. The Lincoln Theater and Lincoln Colonnade night club were at 1215; the theater, now a “theatre,” survives. The Chili Bowl itself (1213 U Street NW) was previously a nickelodeon theater and pool hall, and 1211 next door was a nightclub, variously called the Blue Moon, the Music Box, and the Jungle Inn. From 1936 until 1938 the night club, soon to be Ben’s Next door, was the musical home of jazz pianist, composer, vocalist, performer, and all-around character “Jelly Roll” Morton.”

Very cool. You can read the full article at NotionsCapital.

This one pretty much has it all except for the cool grass and banana trees…

What do you think of the Dance Institute on 14th Street in Columbia Heights? I think it’s pretty badass.

Alright, I’m not sure how well this next contest is going to work but it could be fun so I’ll see what the response will be. This idea came from a reader: “Coolest (most interesting) Roomate/Housemate in PoPville”. Could be fun. So if you’d like to enter take a photo of your roomate and add a few lines of text explaining why you are nominating them. Send me an email at [email protected] and I’ll see if there are enough entries at the end of the week to make it a proper contest.

And here’s another cool contest coming in early October – a PoP Scavenger hunt. This is also the brainchild of a reader who is in the process of devising the hunt which will cover all of PoPville but mainly focusing on Petworth, North Country, Columbia Heights, Mt. Pleasant, Adams Morgan and U Street/Logan Circle/Shaw. It sounds like it is going to be pretty awesome, more details on that to come.

Finally, there is a new forum section called group meet ups. There is already interest in a tennis meetup. So if you’re looking for some tennis check out the forum.
