The flier says:

“Spacious!–attractive natural wood trim throughout-great block so so close to Metrorail and shops-convenient lower level with full bath * * * perfect for extended family”

More info but no photos found here.

I’m curious about this one because I think it might actually be a good deal. Plus I know there are a lot of fans of natural wood trim. Asking price is $329,900. I’m just curious – what do you think of the yellow paint around the trim on the outside? But I really want to know – does this sound like a good deal for four bedrooms and 2 bathrooms?

First Cup Cafe is located at 900 M Street, NW. It actually first caught me eye because I saw a number of books stacked in the windows, which I always think is a sign of a good cafe. They even have their own Web site:

“At First Cup Cafe, we serve freshly prepared sandwiches and an assorted flavors of Coffees from around the world including Brazilian, Columbian and Ethiopian. Try our dark roasted coffee or the refreshing light roasted coffee.

In addition to our coffees, we also serve freshly prepared smoothies in a variety of flavors such as Raspberry, Strawberry, Banana, Pina Colada, Peach, Mango and our house specialty – Green tea smoothies.”

Sounds pretty sweet. Any fans out there. Is this a good place for breakfast as well? A good place to study? What’s the word?

And the Phillies won the World Series! Yeah, I’m a little late on this one but I was waiting to see if could get a photo of one of the new shuttles. Anyway, the blog Frozen Tropics: Shuttle Info posted all about this:

“H Street Northeast business leaders launched the new H Street Shuttle Wednesday, January 14th in front of the Atlas Performing Arts Center, 1333 H Street, NE. Noting concern about transportation during the multi-year H Street “Great Streets” streetscape project, and the need for improved connections for H Street businesses, Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells worked with the DC Department of Transportation to identify funds to create a shuttle service for the corridor. The shuttle service will provide express services connecting the Gallery Place and Minnesota Avenue Metro Stations, with a limited number of stops on H Street, NE and run on an approximate 30 minute headway schedule.”

A reader also wrote me saying:

“As a resident of Columbia Heights, I’m pumped I can get to H Street in a more efficient manner (hopping the Green Line then shuttling). Hopefully, it will be timely, convenient, etc. Just thought your readers would be interested.”

I think this is fantastic news. I have a buddy who lives down there and I really enjoy the Pug, Rock and Roll Hotel and the Argonaut. However, it always has been a bit of pain getting there. Hmm, I guess this would be a good time to ask – what’s your favorite bar/destination on H Street, NE? Will the shuttle from the Chinatown metro increase your trips there?

A reader sent the news from the Huffington Post:

“The gourmet coffee chain plans to close 300 underperforming stores around the world _ including 200 in the U.S. _ by the end of the fiscal year in addition to the 600 U.S. stores it began closing this summer.”

The reader suggested that I do a “post on which DC Starbucks we could do without, or which ones are most likely to get the ax”. I think that’s an interesting idea. My guess is that it shouldn’t hit DC proper too hard since DC’s economy has been holding up fairly well compared to the rest of the US. But to ponder the question I’ve always thought it was a bit odd that there is a Starbucks on 14th Street in Columbia Heights and another one right across the street in the Target. I wouldn’t be too sad if they closed the one in the Target and maybe, oh I don’t know, opened up a Taco Bell there instead…

What do you guys think – are there any spots that you think may get hit with a closure? Do you know of any spots that probably should be closed?

“I have a question for the masses… where is the best tattoo studio in the greater DC area? You feature the tattoo of the week on occasion and there are a few in my circle considering new body art, we are ill-reputed transplants as a byproduct of being in the military, so we do not know the reputation of places in the area. Cost and location are not huge issues, we’d venture out to the ‘burbs if necessary. Of concern are cleanliness, reputation and good artists.”

Let me just say the tattoo of the week will resume as soon as the weather gets warmer! But also I know there are lots of folks on here who have strong opinions about tattoos. So for those who aren’t fans please skip this post. But for those out there who are fans and/or have visited a good reputable artist in the city please leave your suggestions in the comments.

Yesterday it seemed that Congress was going to delay the switch until June. But we learned today that the bill to delay the transfer failed in the house. I really do hope those with bunny ears got the converter box because as I mentioned in early December, it’s freaking sweet! Since December, due to the extra channels I receive including universal sports, I have become a serious connoisseur of ski jumping and luge. Holy cow are the German women good at luge. So if you have bunny ears don’t delay any longer. And trust me, all the luge you’ll get to watch is worth it in and of itself. And maybe these ridiculous huge dishes (pictured above) can finally be removed…

Can’t remember if I’ve shown this one before but it blows me away every time I see it. It’s particularly cool how it’s painted on a fence. I think this is the only example of a mural on a fence that I’ve ever seen.
