I showed the completed mural a few weeks ago but if you remember at that time there was space in gray for a future president. Some folks thought it’d be better if that was filled in. Looks like your request has been granted. I totally dig this mural.

This house in and of itself isn’t so unusual but it is located in alley which I thought was pretty cool. Looked like it was getting renovated too. I do think it’d be cooler with some windows on the side…

DCist is reporting some terrible news this morning:

At approximately 12:20 a.m. on Saturday morning, a taxi driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into Solly’s Tavern at 11th and U Streets NW, injuring at least six people.

“The building shook,” said bar owner John “Solly” Solomon, who was upstairs when the cab collided with the east side of the building. “The tires were spinning because the driver’s foot was still on the pedal, and it kicked up smoke into the bar.”

This is terribly frightening. And I also feel super bad for Solly who is one of the nicest proprietors in town. This past summer I was sitting with friends on the porch when a car, that must’ve been going over 90 miles an hour, flew by us and eventually crashed into the Children’s hospital building further north on 11th. I wonder if 11th street is particularly susceptible to insane drivers?  Thank God no one was killed in either incident. I’ll try and find out when Solly’s will be able to reopen.

A selection from some of the emails I received throughout the week:

5037 Connecticut Ave., NW

Opening Party
Saturday, February 7, 9 – 11pm

Presented by Transformer and Your Last Neighbor, VIDEYO! is an artistic action/reaction to the intimately lit interior of popular pizza restaurant and after school/work hangout Comet Ping Pong. Confronting the audience with larger than life projected imagery, narrating with frame by frame image alternation, captivating with comedic collages, and hypnotizing with vibrant montages, the participating VIDEYO! artists – Kathryn Cornelius, Victoria F. Gaitán, Bill Kelly, Audrey Lam, Nilay Lawson, Frankie Martin, Baby Martinez, and Luke Wyatt – showcase a variety of video art works that reflect how the creative uses of this medium are as infinite as its technological advancements.

Opening party music provided by DJ Solomon Sanchez. More after the jump. (more…)

This is from the construction at 11th and T Streets, NW. I always thought Tyvek ruled this world but I guess they wanted a little variety for this construction…

Thanks to a reader for sending. He writes:

“Here’s a shot of the house on 9th between Webster and Allison I told you about. The lot has been empty since 2003, and probably long before that. A month or so ago they started excavating the site, and already they’re at this point. It looks like it will be two house, attached on the left and detached on the right. Not much new construction in this area, so it’s interesting. I don’t know why they chose now to do it unless they were so far along in the process they didn’t want to stop.

Update on construction. They’re using real brick and really going fast.”

This house is flying up. I know some folks feel strongly about brick. What do you think – thumbs up or down?

This home is located at 1116 Fairmont Street, NW:

The flier says:

“This rowhome in the heart of the Columbia Heights / U Street Neighborhood boasts four bedrooms, three baths, separate dining room, living room, large gourmet kitchen with adjacent breakfast room, finished attic playroom / studio and a finished basement and 2 car GARAGE! Just steps 2 Metros, the U Street Corridor, new restaurants, bars, Target, DCUSA and the Tivoli Theater, enjoy DC at its finest.”

More info and a virtual tour found here.

This is an intersting one because it has 4 bedrooms at 2.5 bathrooms. And while I do dig the location I’m curious what you think of the price – $699,000. Good deal? What do you think of the house itself?

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday.  Anything good happen this week?
