Oh man, this one is super sweet. It has it all – it’s blue, has cool wood, interesting door knocker, wild hinges and handle and some fresh porch lights. Well done. The reader found it on R Street in Dupont.

Dang, not the best picture but a pretty unusual house in Adams Morgan. It also has a very unusual chimney. Another one with a window in it.

A number of readers sent me links to this yesterday. The Post reports:
D.C. police said a Metro bus driver was charged with assault Saturday after a bizarre incident in which he allegedly punched a patrol officer who was dressed as McGruff the Crime Dog, the popular mascot who educates children about crime prevention.
The driver, Shawn Brim, 39, got out of the bus he was driving at Spring Road and 14th Street NW early Saturday afternoon and punched Officer Tyrone Hardy in the head, police said.
Clearly this oddest story of the year, right?

I’ve featured their great window before but never realized that the sign is pretty sweet as well. I’ve rarely seen a sign with rows of light bulbs around it like this one has. I’m not sure if you can read it in the photo but on the small red circle on the bottom left hand corner it says “Dot’s Home Cooking”. Sweet sign.

Wow, I think this one came out really well. Interestingly the brick has no windows but the addition does. Can someone explain to me again why the side that is brick doesn’t have any windows? I think it is safe to say the pop ups that are recessed are the best. Plus they get a nice little deck out of the recess. I also think the wood is pretty cool as well. Do you think the wood comliments the brick? Overall, what do you think – thumbs up or down?

This shot from Nestum23 might be my favorite one yet.
Submit your photos to the PoPville flickr pool here. I understand not all folks like to join the pool so if you’d like to submit a photo you can also email me or tag your flickr photo “popvilledc”.

This home is located at 2517 Ontario Road, NW:
The flier says:
“Great investment opportunity in the heart of Adams Morgan 4 level, 4500+ SF, ton’s of original detail, pocket doors, formal dining room , HWF’s, 9+ ceilings, finished basement.”
More info and frustratingly no photos here.
Well, let’s assume it needs a lot of work because of the lack of photos. But if as they say there is lots of original detail that may be pretty sweet. But would you call something an investment property if it’s on the market for $739,000?

Cafe Ole is located at 4000 Wisconsin Ave. (across the street from the great Filipino-Japanese Market I featured yesterday). They say they are known for having over 30 different Mezze/tapas from all over the Mediterranean. I used to hit this spot occasionally before going to the movie theater located near by but I think that movie theater closed, right? I seem to recall the food was pretty good. You can see the menu here. Any fans out there?

I finally went and visited the lovely residents of the house featured here.
It’s a really great space, and that store front window provides a sort of stage-like space inside the apartment. Perhaps for karaoke parties?
They took me out to their patio to show me their outhouse and great grilling space. You may recall that they said that the building had previously been a German bakery – you can still see the charred wood from where they used fire to bake the bread in the back building (which now serves as the owner’s garage).

Many thanks to Sharyn and Nick for letting me snoop around and share pictures of their very cool apartment with everyone!

Tony from the Neighborhood Development Company sent the following info:
“The Residences at Georgia Avenue (4100 Georgia Avenue, NW) is a seven-story building which consists of 6 stories of affordable apartments, ground floor retail, and 54 at grade and below grade parking spaces. The 7-story building contains 72 apartment units with large windows and open floor plans and uses a state of the art ‘spacesaver’ parking elevator from Germany that allows residents to consolidate two parking spaces one over another.
The residential development is comprised of 36 two-bedroom units and 36 one-bedroom apartments averaging approximately 830 and 650 square feet respectively. Recreational green space is provided on the roof. The apartment portion of the development and the retailer will have their own separate entrances off Georgia Avenue. The property’s ground floor has been purchased by Yes! Organic Market who is currently designing a 10,000 square foot grocery store at this location. The project is now leasing apartments.
Due to the property falling in the affordable housing bracket there are income minimums and maximums. For the one bedroom the rent is $1009.00 per month with a minimum income of $34,600 and a maximum income of $41,340. For the two bedrooms the rent is $1202.00 per month with a minimum income of $41,200 and a maximum income of $47,220 for 2 persons, $53,160 for three persons, and $59,040 for four persons.”
I’ve always been curious about what the affordable housing rates were. Does it seem it reasonable?
