The flier says:

“REALLY NICE HOME NEAR PETWORTH METRORAIL AND ON BUS LINES. IN THE BEAT OF THE CITY WITH FOUR BEDROOMS ON UPPER LEVEL COUNTRY KITCHEN AND ROUGHED-IN THAT’S EASY TO FINISH.”

More info but no photos here.

I was curious about this house because it is a standalone. But I’m starting to get frustrated with listings that don’t have photos. So let me ask you, should I not post GDoN homes if photos aren’t available?

Well, for the curious, this home is going for $375,000. Do you think there is a premium because it is detached? It says there are 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms – does this sound like a reasonable price?

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this weekend?

I’ve heard lots of different opinions on the many banners around town. We’ve spoken about this before but I think it’s time to have an official vote. I was able to take pictures of the banners in Petworth (above), Mt. Pleasant, Columbia Heights, Anacostia, H Street, NE, Bloomingdale and Truxton Circle. (I’m sure I left some out but I passed these on my walks).

After the jump, take a look at the other banners. (more…)

Lots of folks have been anticipating the opening of Cafe Salsa located at 1712 14th Street (near Cork). As of March 20th they are officially open. At the moment only the first floor is open. However, I was able to take a tour of the second floor which should open shortly. I think they did a really good job. The space is huge. Here’s what the first floor looks like:

There’s a nice bar:

A couple of patrons were kind enough to let me photograph a couple of the items they ordered.

Empanadas

Papitas (stuffed with potato and Cuban beef)

Here’s a little description of the place:

In the front of the second floor they have a little lounge area called the Mojito Lounge.

Continues after the jump. (more…)

Mark your calendars, at long last the next PoP happy hour is this Thursday from 7pm on at Solly’s located at 11th and U. This is just a regular happy hour where you can meet lots of your neighbors and drink some beers. I’ll bring plenty of PoP t-shirts in case anyone would like to purchase one. There will be some unaffiliated bands playing at 8:30 pm but I say that’s super cool. Hope you can make it!

Now for some other admin notes. I’m looking for some more contributors. Specifically, folks who live in Bloomingdale, Brookland, Anacostia, Eckington, Mt. Pleasant, Penn Quarter/Chinatown, H Street, NE. Other neighborhoods are of course welcome as well. Additionally, if anyone is interested in the DC museum scene please email me at princeofpetworth (at) gmail (dot) com.

Finally, a number of readers have asked me to set up a twitter account. Is that something you’d be interested in?

See you Thursday!

I come from a long line of neat freaks. I, on the other hand, am only a moderately clean freak. Sadly, I can think of little less pleasant to do on a beautiful weekend than clean my house. I’d say this sink wasn’t cleaned for about three years. So I was lucky enough to enjoy the services of one of my advertisers, Upper Crust Maids.

So mom, you can sleep tight tonight. The house is clean. And I ate a good dinner…

One of the things I love most about running this blog is randomly meeting readers. So on my walkabout this Saturday a couple of readers said hello as I was wandering around the edges of Shaw. What was even cooler was that they offered me a beer on the spot. They claimed Dominion Spring Buck is one of the greatest beers. It has honey, chamomile and orange peels and clocks in at a nearly 8% alcohol level. Nice. Sadly, I had a huge walk left and was unable to accept the beer.

But it got me thinking, what is the best warm weather beer?

At first I thought this was a very bizarre light fixture. But then I realized it was even better as it has no proper function other than decorative. Sweet.

Comes the return of Garden of the Day. Well, soon that is. I didn’t see too many gardens in full effect yet. But it was refreshing to see this one.
