This isn’t a traditional “Helen of Troy” post but I’m truly confused by it. This is located on 18th Street in Adams Morgan. Is it possible that there was a business back in the day called Sterling? Was it related to jewelry or silver? I’ve never seen a name like this engraved in concrete above a window before. Any ideas?

I can’t tell you how happy it makes me when readers submit doors of the day. Sometimes I have to be reminded that other folks actually like doors as much as I do. The reader writes:

“This front door is located at 1730 Florida Ave, NW. I first noticed it today although I live around the corner from the house.

As you may be able to tell in the attached photo, and the reason I think this door is a good candidate, is that the door is rather short. I am 5’3″ and wondered if I could walk into the house through it without having to bend my knees. You can also see the front door at the house next door and that makes for a good comparison.”

I believe in the past folks have referred to these doors as “hobbit doors”. They most definitely kick ass.

I always crack up at the picket white fences in the city. Don’t get me wrong, I dig ’em. Actually this whole row is pretty sweet. Anyone recognize the block?

Back in February I had written about Hadiyah’s opening (located at 3118 Georgia Ave.) but I had never seen it open until this past Friday. I spoke with a few of the folks there and they were super nice. They were very proud of their hot dogs and hope to give Ben’s a run for its money.

However, they also noted that they had very good curry dishes as well. I now understand why the spot always seemed closed. At the moment the hours are a bit limited. Currently they are open 9-6pm Mon.-Fri but open until 8pm on Thursday. Sadly, they are closed Sat. and Sun. In the future, (when the economy improves) they hope to extend their hours, get wifi, and serve breakfast (breakfast options not to exceed $6). I know the hours are tough but has anyone checked them out yet?

Wow. I’ve often walked by this one and admired the roofdeck as well as the building itself. So what do you think about the house itself. It also has a pretty wow price – $5,000,000. Of course it does have 8 bed and 8 baths…

Alero (U Street) is located at 1301 U Street, NW. You can see their menu here. As the weather warms up Alero seems to offer a good spot for outdoor dining and is often crowded. So is it crowded just because the seating is so prime or because the food is good or some combination of the two? I’ve always enjoyed the Cleveland Park location but don’t know too much about U Street. Do people recommend it for brunch as well?
