When we admired the Bryant Street pumping station a couple of weeks ago, someone recommended checking out the Bus Barn on upper 14th Street. It’s a bit tough to appreciate it from these photos because it takes up a whole city block. I sadly couldn’t get it in all one photo. But it is pretty sweet. The cross streets are Allison and Buchanan, I believe. Pretty nice for a bus barn, yeah?

This home is located at 2619 Garfield Street, NW:

The flier says:

“Dazzling light filled space with customized high end finishes. Sophisticated European design includes Porcelanosa cabinets, Bosch and Subzero appliances, hardwood floors and state of the art wiring incl ipod docking station. Wet bar beverage area leads out to over 600 sq feet of private roof terrace. Two short blocks to Woodley Metro.”

More info and some great photos here.

This is the first street I ever lived on when I moved to DC in 1997. Sadly, my apartment looked nothing at all like this one. So what do you think of the renovations? It can be yours for $1,250,000.

Petits Plats is located at 2653 Connecticut Ave, NW in Woodley Park. I’ve heard that the restaurant is quite good. You can see the full menu here. But I was also intrigued by the “Pizze” sign. Has anyone tried the to go Pizze? You can see the to go menu here. Any fans out there?

Henderson Castle

I got an email from Aaron Schmidt the Digital Initiatives Librarian at DCPL announcing this venture. It is awesome. I’ll definitely be posting some cool old photos from here.

In the picture above they write:

“Built in 1888 for Senator John Brooks Henderson, the castle stood at the intersection of Florida Avenue and 16th Street, NW (northwest corner). Henderson was a skilled politician and was the man who drafted the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution. In 1949 the house was razed, with only the great stone entrance gate posts having survivied the wrecking ball.”

This is so cool as we’ve spoken about the stone entrance in the past. It is amazing to see what it actually looked like. Good on ya, DCPL!

A reader gets very upset with this Washington Post story about Fenty withholding Nats tickets from the DC Council. The article says:

“Several D.C. Council members said they and some of their constituents were kept away from yesterday’s home opener at Nationals Park because Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D) was withholding 19 tickets to their suite at the stadium.”

His email to Council Member Bowser follows:

“I just saw a news article expressing the Council’s collective outrage at Fenty’s hoarding the Council’s Nationals tickets. Seriously? Is this really an issue? Has the Council really wasted time on this discussion? I find the absolutely disgusting and hope the news article was exaggerating. Given the budget and crime crises the City is facing how on earth can this even be an issue? How can there be time to discuss this? And frankly given the recent layoffs, talk of a street light tax and the huge budget shortfall, why isn’t the City or the Council auctioning these tickets off to the highest bidder.  Continues after the jump. (more…)

A reader sent this in. It’s good timing as I’ve been thinking about running a comic strip for quite a while now. So let me take this opportunity to solicit submissions from you guys. Let me know if you would like to do a regular strip or a one off comic like the one above. Please email me at princeofpetworth (at) gmail.com if you are interested. And thanks again to the reader for sending this one.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen chain link fence around a tree like this before. I’m guessing it’s just temporary. Anyone know what the deal is?
