Sometimes the really simple doors speak to me. You can tell that this one is old but has maintained its character. Note the hinges and door knob.

Someone suggested I check out the carriage house at the 1900 block of 3rd Street, NW. But the house itself is pretty too. Here’s the carriage house:

It’s got a sweet door too:

Thanks to a reader for sending this awesome shot.

I’m not sure when this happened but it seems the front window of the Aaron Gallery, located at 1717 Connecticut Ave, NW, got broken. Yet the show must go on. It reminds me of when Solly’s had it’s window smashed by the cab and they opened up the next day. Badass. The current exhibit at the Aaron Gallery features Lennon Michalski and Brandon C. Smith and is titled, “Still and Anxious”.

This gem was found on ebay by Rose from Wonderland and now graces the patio area (11th and Kenyon). Brilliant find!

I’m not sure exactly how “new” this home is but I’m guessing it’s relatively new. I found it in Glover Park on the 3800 block of Fulton Street, NW. I know folks aren’t huge fans of garages and curb cuts but I think it’s interesting how it lines up with the windows above. What do you think – thumbs up or down?

City Paper has the scoop:
“The decision to hold off on current legislation due to the threat of gun-related amendments follows a conference call on Sunday with various advocates and local politicos. A compromise gun legislation proposed by the office of Majority Leader Steny Hoyer was reviewed.
The consensus was not to move forward with the compromise.

Here are some great shots from Matt.Dunn. I had heard about the trapeze school by the old convention center but haven’t stopped by yet. This is too cool.

Above is “Dana, Trapeze Flyer”.

This condo is located at 1117 10th Street, NW:
The flier says:
“Spacious 7th floor 1 bedroom near convention center/downtown. Floor to ceiling corner windows and balcony with lots of light and gas stove! Great location: 3 blocks to metro (green/yellow), and walking distance distance to red line (Chinatown), Dupont and Logan circles, and National Mall. Pet-friendly with front desk, common rooftop deck, garage parking, and storage included.”

I’ve always been a big fan of this building. It’s the building that has two parts, one of which we’ve judged in the past. I also think this is a pretty solid location. Do you think this 1 bed/1 bath with parking sounds reasonable for $384,000?
Ed. Note: From time to time I get reader or realtor requests but I only post if I genuinely find them interesting.

“Dear PoP,
I live at 6th and L NE and yesterday beginning at around 4:30pm, ambulance and cop cars kept speeding down my street headed west. When my roommates got home around 6, my street was totally backed up with traffic apparently because they were re-routing everything from 8th Street NE. When i returned from the grocery store around 7 pm, there were cop cars on L and 7th and on L blocking 8th Street. I saw the news report on the shooting in Trinidad, but that seems to have only happened around 8:30 which doesn’t seem to fit the timeframe for whatever was happening down by me earlier in the afternoon. Any ideas?”
Hmm, I hadn’t heard beyond the Trinidad shooting. Anyone know what happened yesterday?
