“Dear PoP,
I just found out that the local group CarbonfreeDC has made it into the top 10 in National Geographic’s “The Green Effect” competition. If they won, they’d use the $20,000 prize to green 20 local low-income homes. They need votes on the National Geographic’s website. Sounds really interesting…

While it isn’t DC related, you gotta love scrabble.

So I feel like we’ve been covering some pretty heavy stuff lately. Time for a nice little diversion. My favorite board game is currently Scrabble. Growing up I loved Monopoly and Risk. So for a well needed random Wed. question of the day – what is or was your favorite board game?

Well this one is truly odd. If you look at the back left hand side of the photo you’ll see what seems to be a lifeguard chair. Problem is – there’s no pool. In fact it’s just overlooking a parking lot.

Your captions in the comments and winner picked Friday. If you do win don’t forget to email me so you can get your PoP t-shirt.

This is just outside the Capitol Building. It has no windows all the way around. I’m guessing it was used to store something at some point. Any guesses?

A lucky reader writes:

“In this photo I am in Montelupo Albese, in the Cuneo province of Italy! The hillside was the most beautiful I have ever seen in my life. It was all rolling hills, picturesque villages and vineyards as far as the eye could see. I am so sad I had to leave.”

I wanted to give an update to PoP readers who might be wondering how my garden is coming along after the Great Lettuce Harvest. First off, as you can see, my tomatoes are already coming in, and I’ll be having a bumper crop this year. While they were too late to go with the lettuce, I also have crazy numbers of cucumbers already ripe for a tom/cuke salad.

Now I do have a question for PoP readers: what do I do with my banana & jalepeno peppers? I ask because my wife does not like thinks hot and spicy, though I do. So is there a dish that I can make with these that will satisfy us both?

I hope all the other urban gardeners are just as lucky.

I really liked the dark wood on this one. And of course the glass work is nice as well. I can’t tell if it’s a really old door or a really new one…
