Some great stained glass house numbers in the transom (just learned that word…). I also dig the big glass section which likely leads to a sweet vestibule.

I always like to highlight homes with interesting paint jobs. I think this one on the 100 block of T Street, NW came out pretty good.

We learned a bit about the spot back in June but a small sign is up now and Washington Biz Journal did a write up:

“Diamond District Seafood will occupy about 6,700 square feet at 1608 14th St. NW, where retailer 100% Mexico used to be. The combination restaurant and seafood market comes out of a partnership Seaver forged early this year with restaurateurs Eli Hengst and Douglas Singer, the duo behind such concepts as Sonoma and Blue Ridge Restaurant.”

WASHINGTON IMPROV THEATER’S

Improvapalooza 2009 – July 30 thru August 1, 2009

Improvapalooza is WIT’s answer to the summer music festival: a three day even with over 70 improv shows and the rockin’ atmosphere of a summer block party at Source on 14th street, NW. Some of WIT’s most renowned shows play back-to-back with some daring new experiments. It’s a celebration of improv, summer, and Washington DC. An entire improv show consisting of Christopher Walkens? A show inspired by fortune cookie that takes place in bed? A short film shot immediately outside the theater? Yes, yes and yes.

WASHINGTON IMPROV THEATER’S

Neutrino Video Project 2009 – August 6 thru September 5, 2009

It begins with a suggestion. Then, Washington Improv Theater’s cameras, actors and crew take to the streets to shoot, edit, score and screen an entirely improvised movie in as much time as it takes you to watch it. Completely unscripted, totally unpredictable and critically acclaimed, the Neutrino instant movie phenomenon is like nothing you’ve ever experienced. The only way to see how it all comes together is to be there when it all goes down.

Visit us at Windows Cafe
during the
First on 1st Art + Music Walk
Saturday, August 1, 12 to 4 p.m.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FleetingJoin Ten Miles Square and the work of four photographers at Windows Cafe this Saturday as part of the First on 1st Art + Music walk, organized by the Pink Line Project and North Capitol Main Street. Grab a map at one of the participating venues all along 1st Street NW between Florida and Rhode Island Avenues to enjoy music, drinks, art and more from noon to 4 p.m.
Ten Miles Square is doing a four square at Windows Cafe — between nature and street photography, and portrait and action shots. Jo Ann Tooley’s serene black and white outdoor images play up the colors of Tracy Clayton’s urban scenes, while Katy Ray’s playful, feminine models increase the brutality of Brian Knight’s adventure race crashes.
Windows Cafe is at 101 Rhode Island Avenue NW. Take the metro to Shaw on the Green line and your art + music walk starts a few blocks away, just keep walking up Rhode Island Ave.
More after the jump. (more…)
“This is Monster! She’s a 4 year old Boston Terrier who loves people and cuddling. Children love to poke her face and adults love to ask if she’s blind in one eye. She takes it all with a wag and a smile. She also enjoys spending time with our cat, Shrimp Scampi.”
“Pictured are Diego and Frida, during one of their calmer moments. Typically it’s hard to capture them in the same camera shot b/c they are constantly pouncing on each other, or racing up and down the long hallway of my apartment. Both cuddly and playful, they are THE coolest cats in POPville.”
“This is Cali, the meanest dog in the neighborhood. Well, one would assume this by the way people cross the street when they see her coming their way. The fact that she is the sweetest dog one could ask for, can be our little secret. No, she is not a grandma pit bull. She is a 3 year old chinese shar pei. This picture was taken while camping at Assateague Island. She looked like this the whole weekend because she loved sticking her face in the sand. If you see us walking around or at Meridian Hill Park, don’t hide, come by and say, “Hi.” ”
Ed. Note:  The cats are not competing against the dogs.  There will be 5 dog, cat and “other” finalists that will each compete in their own category.  We’ll have a poll in each category to select the winner.  Using the comments section for these posts will help me select the 5 finalists for each category.  I’ve gotten some amazing entries, and a lot of them (over a 100)!  So I’ll need your help selecting the finalists.  Maybe at the very end we’ll put the three winners in each category up for an overall winner.
The deadline for entries is Midnight tonight (no exceptions). Remember, please only send one photo per pet. You can see all the entries here. Please see after the jump for more entries. (more…)
“At around 7:30 p.m. DC Fire and EMS received a call of a fire in a building at 329 Rhode Island Ave in Northeast DC. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they encountered heavy fire conditions on the top floor of what officials believe is a vacant, unoccupied residential building.”
This home is located at 1249 Irving Street, NE:
The flier says:
“Price just reduce by 50K!Classic mid-century modern built in 1950 by Washington architect. With light filled rooms, refinished oak hardwood floors, many original details with new appliances, mechanical upgrades and restored charm. Perched high above the street level with wonderful views. Master bedroom plus three others on second floor.”
The reader writes:
“I love it, and we’re thinking about taking a look. It’s huge and has a ton of character.”
It does look pretty sweet, it even has a great door picture! Though, I feel like the price may still be a bit high. It has been reduced from $749,900 to $699,900. Sound reasonable? What do you think of the house itself?
