“I noticed a bunch of signs for new businesses on 14th street today. Masa 14 and the new Cork market now have “coming soon’ signs.

In sadder news, Shoefly on U appears to have reduced its hours to only be open on weekdays. Hope that’s enough to keep them there.”

And I thought I’d add another from 14th St.:

And in “Going” news it looks like Score the educational center has closed in Columbia Heights (in the plaza where the new fountain is going near Julia’s Empanadas).

Demolition begins this week on the old Bruce-Monroe School (not to be mistaken with the old Bruce School located at Sherman and Kenyon) located at Georgia Ave between Columbia Rd. and Irving St. The building is gigantic. And from what I hear from folks who live near by they are pretty excited about the demo. I hear that it was a high crime area due to the hidden view from the street:

DC MUD reports:

“According to ODMPED Communications Director Sean Madigan, the Mayor’s office will issue an RFP “in the next few weeks” to select a developer to turn the 119,000-s.f. site into what “could include new housing and retail on the site as well as a new school.”

“Say hi to Archie. AKA Baby Archie, Archibald von Fluffenbaum, Archenmeyer, or die Knuddelmonster in German. He’s a 10-yr-old Turkish Angora kitty. We got Archie last April when his previous owners turned him out in favor of two new dogs who didn’t like him. He lived outside, under porches and in storm drains, for over 8 months. A kind neighbor found him, and nursed him back to health. She says he was covered in dirt and tar, and was half the size he is now. Archie likes the simple things in life. He likes to sit in the window, he likes to sleep in the sun, and he likes to curl up on you and fall asleep. Archie LOVES people. Any people. As long as they pet him. He follows us about and talks to us regularly, just in case we look in danger of forgetting he’s here. Vote Archie! Cuddly kitty extraordinaire!”

“The all white one is Jocelyn, and my friend had her for a year and decided that she needed a boyfriend, so she took her to the shelter where they met Lance, and after a bunny speed-date, Lance was adopted too. As you can see, they have become pretty close!”

“Spacious Petworth rowhouse just blocks from Petworth Metro station. Gleaming hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, 3 bedrooms with den, 3 full baths, (one on each level), large closets and parking. Fine to live in as is or use FHA-203K to renovate to your taste. Property sold in As-Is condition.”

More info and photos found here.

Well I think this one looks pretty good. It’s looks nicely done though I’m a bit frightened by the “As-Is condition” in the description. What do you guys think – looks good? $320,000 sound reasonable?

I Richhi is located at 1220 19th St., NW. In my quest to find the greatest Italian restaurant it’s time to judge I Richhi. I’m hearing it’s a bit overrated but I’ve also heard folks that love it. You can see their menu here. Any fans? Worth the dough?

“Wanted to let you know I got stopped by MPD on my bike today for running the red light at W (going down 14th). Ticket was $25!! Another cyclist that was also stopped before me said she had watched a number of bike messengers fly by before he stopped me, a regular bike commuter.”
