Well who would’ve guessed a little contest like this could create such controversy. There is some debate as to whether the Cat finalists poll is being manipulated or not. Please, please, please don’t use a computer program to flood the poll. Of course you can tell friends, family and colleagues to vote but let’s keep it legit. Anyway the cat poll is pretty close with Oreo, Ike, and Oliver all pretty close. Cat voting is open until Wed. 11:59pm. The “Other” poll is also pretty tight. Calliope, Cladius and Flash are pretty close as well. Voting for “other” ends tonight at 11:59 pm. Also, I just want to let folks know that shirts are only being made for the overall winner (not each category). The king of kings if you will.
Whew, ok, so here we have the 10 Dog finalists. My God was this a difficult task. It literally took me two hours to trim the list. I was stuck on 20 finalists and had to grit my teeth and half it to a more manageable 10 finalists. Voting will open for dog finalists until 11:59pm next Friday. Please be honest! The name corresponds with the photo above.

“Dear PoP,
I need someone to do repairs to an old leaded glass cabinet door in my house. In addition I want to commission a stained glass piece for a transom. I have had this kind of work done in the past, but I never was able to find someone local. Before I give up and go out to the sticks again to get this done, I thought you might ask your readers if they know (or are) someone who works with leaded glass.”
Very cool. I think this guy is local and his stuff looks good. Anyone else know of someone local who can do this work?

The missing girl that was posted about Tuesday has been found! Great news. More details when they become available.

“Dear PoP,
I recently read about NYC’s Summer Streets event, where the NYC DOT completely closes Park Avenue from Central Park to the Brooklyn Bridge to automobile traffic for three Saturdays during August. It allows walkers, runners, and bikers to have complete use of several miles of Park Avenue without having to worry about cars getting in the way. It looks and sounds like a great idea. I’m curious to ask your readers if this concept might work in DC, and which street they think would be a good one to close…while not screwing up automobile traffic around the city too much. My suggestion is P Street, from Wisconsin Ave all the way to North Capital St, because it traverses many neighborhoods and is not too hilly. Although the two circles it intersects could pose a problem. What do you think? A link is below:

What a cool program. I definitely think it could work in DC. If they can close Park Avenue in NYC then we could def. close a street for a few days on the weekend over the summer. I think P Street is a great recommendation. I think they could also probably do U Street from 18th to 7th Street, NW. I actually think it would be cool if they did Pennsylvania Ave from the Capitol to the White House. What do you guys think?

My attorney got this sweet custom made built in book shelf. I think built in bookshelves are among the coolest features in homes.
So while we’re on the topic of books I have to share a couple great ones I just finished. I loved the FQoTD when I asked for your all time favorite books. I just finished Sometimes a Great Notion by Ken Kesey and The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson. My attorney loaned me the Kesey book but I was lucky enough to have received The Girl Who Played With Fire from the publisher. Someone asked if they thought I was selling out if I posted about it. Hell no, because it was an amazing book, I could hardly put it down. It’s a sophisticated mystery. It’s one of those books that you start reading and the next thing you know it is 3am. Very hard to find good ones like this. It is the second in a trilogy, with the first being the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo which I previously recommended.
So has anybody read a great book lately? And of course if you have home improvement photos please email them to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com.
