Here’s the garden on 15th Street near Allison that a reader mentioned in another GoTD post. I featured this garden last year. The banana trees are insanely huge. They also have them in the curb strip as well.

The design etched in this one is pretty unusual. Looks like a pretty old door. It contrasts well with the subtle stained glass numbers above.

This is a classic rowhouse up in 16th Street Heights. I dig the pitched roof over the door.

I’m getting lots of emails about a shooting last night on 14th Street. I’ve inquired with MPD but haven’t heard any details yet. Anyone know what happened? I’ll update with more info as it becomes available later in the day.

UPDATE FROM MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department

I’m told that Tynan Coffee & Tea located on Irving Street just west of 14th St., NW is about “half way done”. You can also see that they’ve applied for a liquor license.

Chipotle coming to 3113 14th Street, NW begins its build out Monday!

Pray for good weather – Columbia Heights Day this Saturday.

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) would like to remind District residents and visitors that the first-ever Feet in the Street celebration will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2009 in Fort Dupont Park. The park will be closed to motor vehicle traffic from 9 am to 3 pm and walkers, runners, bikers, and skaters will have the streets to themselves.

The event, hosted by DDOT and the National Park Service, will be held rain or shine and numerous activities and programs are planned for participants of all ages:

“Dear PoP,

I recently became the proud owner of a wonderful Lab, my first dog in my adult life. She’s very well behaved and loves people but not so fond of her fellow canines. I don’t have a lot of outdoor space and would like to take her out for more than a walk on the sidewalks of Columbia Heights. She only likes the dog park a Park and 11th when she’s the only one there which isn’t too often. I was wondering if your readers could suggest some dog friendly parks, cafes and other neighborhood public places where I could take her, especially now that the weather is going to get cooler. BTW, she loves to go to Eastern Market on Sundays.”

Hmm, I’m curious what others offer but I know their is a new dog park coming to 17th and S, there is also one at 11th and R and another in Adams Morgan in the park right after the Ellington Bridge. Where do other folks like to take their dogs?

This home is located at 1606 33rd Street, NW:

Since I walked around Georgetown a bit I thought it’d be interesting to feature one their old homes for sale. Man, this is a cool one. Check out the virtual tour, it is one of the most unusual I’ve seen. I think it looks pretty sweet but am curious why it has been on the market so long (182 days). What do you think of the home itself? $739,000 sound reasonable?
