The flier says:

“Spread out in this sun filled, spacious federal style townhome in the heart of Shaw! Luxury awaits you as you enter this renovated home to its original historic charm! Hardwoods, exposed brick, beamed cathedral ceilings and so much more!”

More info and photos found here.

I think this is a good looking house. Though, it’s interesting that it is three levels but only has 2 bedrooms. What do you think of the renovations/photos? Does $479,900 sound reasonable?

The Dubliner is located at 520 N Capitol St NW near Union Station. Filming the most recent PoPtrekker my partner in crime, Intangible Arts, was singing the praises of the Dubliner. I’m sad to say, I was fairly wrecked by the time we got there but I did enjoy my fried chicken salad. It has a great outdoor dining area and the inside had a classic pub feel.

You can see their menus here. Any big fans? For those that like it, do you prefer it more for the food or the bar?

Little Miss Whiskey’s is located at 1104 H Street, NE. I was sent a bit more info from the folks running the trivia:

“Dear PoP,

Cool weirdness plus public service announcement? Today my thermal coffee carafe exploded – as in gunshot loud, glass shooting up like a geyser all over the sink (and me.) The carafe was empty, room temperature for 6 hours, being rinsed in tepid water. Google search turned up a shocking number of similar explosions! I just never thought about exploding coffee pots before! Also, a tire gauge recently exploded during use, shooting the metal measurement slide thing out like a bullet. So it got me wondering, what else explodes that you really would never expect?”

That is insane. Reminds me of my first PoP breakfast tip from Jan. ’07. Never ever try to microwave an egg…

I’ve been getting a number of emails (and a tweet, see photo above) about this disgrace. Sadly, I suspected it was going to happen. This is from the great mosaic on Irving between 11th and 13th that was done by a group of students from the Latin American Youth Center. Hopefully the graffiti can be removed without too much damage to the mural.

One reader sums up the situation perfectly:

“Why must people be such assholes?!”

I don’t get it but I sorta love it. No, I definitely love it.  But I still don’t get it…

“Dear PoP,

I have a DC-wide issue that has been irking me lately, in more ways than one. Too many metro riders (including myself) are inconvenienced by riders committing suicide using metro trains.

A) What’s up with that? Why disrupt people’s travel and commuting? and
B) Is metro doing anything to combat this increasing issue?

Granted, it is a deeper societal problem with worsening economies, etc. Metro is having a hard enough time as it is with budget shortfalls and bad press. But why harm yourself using the metro? ”

And

“Dear PoP,

I keep reading reports of suicides or deadly accidents at Metros this year. It seems like a really high amount. Have there been more this year than in previous years? I’m not sure if it’d be reassuring to know that this was a normal amount…”

I thought it was interesting that I got two very similar questions like this on the same day. I put in a call to WMATA and spoke with a representative from Media Relations and he said he didn’t have those numbers at the moment but would get back to me. All I asked him for was the number of suicides by train last year versus the number to date this year. Sadly, he said that he’d get back to me and never did. Oh well.

We’ve got a lot historical knowledge ourselves. So what do you guys think/remember – do there seem to be more suicides by metro this year? Is there anything that metro can do to prevent these?
