The flier says:

“Ultimate perfection is what BlueSkyHousing had in mind when they constructed The Stella Polaris Condominium. A newly constructed sun drenched, 5 Unit upscale Condominium Building. It features 2-BR & 2-FB, open floor plan with 10 ft ceilings, Stainless-Steel Appliances, Granite Counters, MBR Suites. Security System, Video Entry System and Parking. JUST REDUCED by $ 20k!!!!”

More info and photos found here.

I’ve been monitoring this building pretty closely and am excited we get to take a look inside. I think the location is pretty good as there is a lot of movement on the 9th and U St. area and we’ve seen in the last few weeks. This is near the flea market that is going to get redeveloped plus the wine bar, consignment shop, and new tavern that are all slated to come in nearby. But anyway, back to the actual condo. How do you think it looks? How do you think the building itself looks?

Does $499,999 sound reasonable for this 2 bed/2 bath?

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. Anything good happen this week?

This is a follow up from the news we learned yesterday. From an email:

“Dear Friends,

I was deeply upset and deeply saddened to learn that Ted Loza was arrested yesterday by the FBI on charges of taking a bribe.

As my constituents, I want you to know —

I have not personally engaged in any illegal behavior or activity.

What Teddy allegedly did in no way influenced any action I took on legislation. Indeed, Teddy generally is not involved, nor is he consulted on legislative matters which are instead handled by myself and our committee staff.

As I said to FBI agents yesterday, I will fully cooperate with their investigation bringing forth all of the information relevant and needed.

I have placed Teddy on administrative leave effective yesterday, with pay, until there are further developments. Teddy–like all of us-is entitled to a presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

If you have concerns or questions, please let me know–as always–by using this direct email address for me.

Sincerely, Councilmember Jim Graham”

Matt Dunn, originally from the Bronx, NY, lives in Shaw and has been a freelance photographer since June 2000. Matt’s work has been published in the New York Times, Spin Magazine, Mother Jones, Washington City Paper and other publications. He has work on photo projects internationally in Haiti, Cuba, India and Uganda. Matt previously featured a portrait series on PoP called “Tough”, archived entries can be found hereDisposition is his current portrait series. He writes:

“A person’s disposition is one’s personal temperament, or according to Webster, one’s prevailing tendency, mood, or inclination. I am interested in how does each person I photograph copes with life in DC at the end of the decade, the year 2009. I hope to reveal each individual’s disposition in this series of portraits. This week features portraits from the Tea Party Protest on 9-12-2009.”

Back in July I wrote that Habitat was moving into the space next door, formerly Moojoo Ken located at 1512 U Street, NW.

But I had no idea what was going to move into Habitat’s old space at 1510 U Street, NW. A reader provides some salacious scuttlebutt:

“I was just in Habitat, the purse/ bag shop on U Street. It recently moved downstairs into Moojoo Ken’s old spot. I asked someone working there what was moving into their old spot and he said it would be a sex shop. He seemed to be an honest man, who struggled to find the appropriate English words to describe the shop to me.

While I often look at vacant spots on U Street and brainstorm what this area needs, sex shop has never been the top of my list. Guess I am a bit naive.”

Of course this is only scuttlebutt but I’m dying to hear what you guys think. So for the FQoTD – do you think a sex shop will be a good fit for U Street? Also, do you think the U Street neighborhood association (if there is one) will support or at least not fight a sex shop on U Street?

Now that the Prince of Petworth is a full-time blogger, I am looking forward to his continued ventures into the other neighborhoods of Washington, DC (aka The Hill).  There’s something about that significant increase in price per square foot that makes for a heated Good Deal or Not (GDoN) smackdown between the NWers and Hill/H Street dwellers.  According to the GDoN comments, I expect more than a few readers will be surprised at the current sales price of this two bedroom, two and a half bath home.  For NWers who haven’t been paying much attention to the subject neighborhood, it’s worth a glance at the H Street Main Street web site.

The sales history over the past ten years speaks to the extensive changes both the overall DC real estate market and this neighborhood have experienced.

2009: See above for details.

Back in June I shared some scuttlebutt that the owners of Marvin had purchased this location at 1115 U St, NW. Turns out to be partially true. The Going Out Gurus provide the details:

“The U Street Music Hall is slated to open in early 2010 in the old Cue Bar location at 1115 U Street — a basement-level space that can hold 250 to 300 people. Eastman says the place will have “a rock-club atmosphere with a high-end sound system. No bottle service or any of that.”

You can read the rest of the details here.

Thanks to a reader for sending in the above photo with the following, “The workers removed all the barriers just a few minutes ago. (Thurs. evening) Folks are already hanging out there. Very cool!”. Apparently there is supposed to be a press conference tomorrow morning at 10am but I haven’t received official word. I’ll update tomorrow if that is the case.

Incidentally another reader sent in a very cool link with photos of other “solar trees”. You can see them here.
