The flier says:

“Nicely renovated 3 Bedroom, 1 ba home with 1 BR, 1 BA rental unit(currently mo to mo $1068)in Columbia Heights. Nice open floor plan with chefs kitchen, stainless steel appliances and grantite countertops. Brick patio and garden, parking possible. Short walk to Comunbia Height metro, shops and cafes.”

More info found here and a virtual tour found here.

I’m a big fan of this location and actually do like the painted brick. My only concern is that in the virtual tour that doesn’t seem to be many photos of windows. What do you guys think of the house itself? Keeping in mind that there is a rental unit does $479,000 sound reasonable?

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this weekend?

“Dear PoP,

Attached is a photo of the fence behind our house. As you can clearly see, it is not in the best of conditions. When we moved in this summer, there were hornets nesting in the “gate” and I had to soak the wood with bug killer to make it safe to go on the patio. It could give the leaning tower of Pisa a run for its money. It’s at the point where several of the holes in the fence are big enough for my two dogs to fit through if there was something (a squirrel perhaps) worth chasing. It needs to be fixed. The awkward part is that we are renting the house (SE DC Capitol Hill) and the owners/landlords have told us it’s not their fence, it’s the neighbors’. I have asked the landlords to address this issue with the neighbors but they live down in Maryland (like two hours away) and trying to find time for them to visit to address home issues is tough. I’m the kind of person that wants to walk over, knock on their door, and ask them to repair it because it’s becoming unsafe and obviously unsightly. We shouldn’t be able to not enjoy our patio because of the neighbors’ negligence although I also know fences are not inexpensive. Suggestions? Are there any codes that cover fences in DC? Do we suck it up and deal until we have to go knock on their door to liberate our dogs from their yard?”

A couple years ago I asked if good fences made good neighbors?. This is a slightly different scenario. What would you guys recommend in this situation? I’d think that the landlord should approach the owners of the fence. Since they live far away, perhaps they could call the owners of the fence? What do you guys think?

Well this sounds awesome. Back in July I spoke with Lynne Skynear about possible changes to her location at 2122 18th Street, NW.

The Wine Shoppe sounds pretty awesome as it is a project from the folks behind Cashion’s Eat Place. The sign says:

“Our vision is to bring a fine wine and gourmet food shoppe to one of the most diverse and authentic neighborhoods in Washington DC.”

Think this will be a good fit for 18th Street, NW?

Note that Skynear is not going away all together but will be featuring their items on the top floors.

Rick Hood follows up on the original discussion of Elwood Thompson’s financing possibilities.

“Lots of creative ideas. The CH community is so educated and engaged. Anonymous – your idea regarding the no interest loan w/ 5% back on groceries (need to study what is fair for both here) to attract the $1000- 5000 loans sounds interesting. Would others be interested in such an idea? I will brainstorm on this (and the other ideas) tomorrow w/ our core staff.”

Sounds like a cool idea. I’m also curious how many folks would be interested in a solution like this?

Not sure how many people got to check out Crafty Bastards on Saturday but it was quite a scene. There was lots of great arts, crafts, and clothes. There was even some great music:

But my favorite part was definitely the breakdancing. Fortunately, some PoPville Flickr pool users got some great shots:

Above was taken by mediaslave. More breakdancing shots after the jump. (more…)

“Dear PoP,

I just noticed as I drove by the corner of 7th & Varnum that the apartment building at 4226 7th Street NW has been boarded up. It’s an apartment building that has had its share of police activity and possible prostitution going on inside.

Do you know anything?”

I walked by and spoke to a resident who was outside. He said the building was vacated Friday evening around 8pm. He also believes the entire building is going to be demolished. That appears likely as there was a sign proclaiming the structure unsafe.
