Thanks to a reader for alerting me to the news that Manny & Olga’s will be opening up a Petworth shop. Not sure where and not sure when but apparently an email was sent out by Manny & Olga’s owners alerting some to the new location. I for one am very happy to hear it. And yes they will deliver!

As you may have heard The Red Derby, located at 3718 14th St. NW, is set to open this Tuesday at 6pm. So as I was walking by to take a look at the location I was lucky enough to run into a friend of the owners and then one of the owners showed up allowing me a sneak peak at the inside. It is phenomenal! If you are looking for another neighborhood bar you need look no further. This place doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles but what it does have will surely make you smile. It has a fantastic beer selection and a pool table in the back. I was surprised to learn that pool will only cost a dollar, very rare these days. They will have 33 types of beers all available in cans. However, if canned beer is not your style they also offer a full bar and wine service as well.

The owners are husband and wife team Sasha Carter and David Leventry. I was able to speak with Sasha who was previously the bar manager at Local 16. Sasha explained to me that Red Derby is committed to can beers because they offer a better price point. “Where else can you get an Amstel light or Heineken for 4 bucks”, she asked. (more…)

This is a banner for a new condo being built behind the 9:30 club. “118 Hip Modern Lofts” and “Views that rock”. Is this what some market research said would resonate with those looking for urban digs? What makes a loft hip anyway?

I told you New Hampshire House was selling. At any rate I had the opportunity to speak with one of the new residents who is very pleased with her new digs. I asked her how she chose NH House over some of the other condos and she cited location as the number one reason. Specifically she was happy that it wasn’t right near the strip club on Georgia Ave. nor near the proposed location of the Central Mission Homeless Shelter. So my question is: how devastating will the potential homeless shelter move to Georgia Ave. be on people moving to the area between Petworth and CH? Will the development of 11th St. with Red Rocks, Warehouse, Wonderland outweigh the negatives associated with the homeless shelter?

Has anyone checked out the free Jazz shows at Sala Thai located on U St. between 13th and 14th? Shows are Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Not that I am complaining… Thanks to all for making the PoP launch party an awesome time. It was great to meet so many people from the neighborhood. My head is still a bit fuzzy so you’ll get your regularly scheduled posts later in the day. In the meantime enjoy some of the photos from last night’s party. And again a huge thank you to all who showed up. It was truly a pleasure. (more…)

It has finally arrived, the PoP relaunch party and (almost) one year anniversary. Join an insanely eclectic group around 8pm at Temperance Hall located on Georgia Ave. and Princeton Pl. (3634 Georgia Ave NW) about a block and a half from the Petworth metro. If you won a free t-shirt you know who you are and tomorrow is collection time. There are plenty of others if you’d like to purchase a shirt for $10. I’d like to give a big thank you to the folks at Temperance Hall, especially General Manager Dan Searing, for being so flexible and providing all night specials for the party. There will be $1 off domestic beer, house wine, and rail cocktails. The belly dancer shows up at 10pm so plan on staying late!

And thanks to the Express for the mention:
