From a press release:

“Serenity and relaxation have just arrived on U Street. Urban Adventures Companies, Inc. (UAC), the DC-based urban lifestyle and entertainment company, announced today the grand opening of the new Aura Spa at VIDA Fitness-U Street, located at the company’s fitness and lifestyle complex at 1612 U Street, NW. Positioned directly off VIDA’s first floor lobby, the new $1 million, 5,000-square-foot Aura Spa flagship is the company’s third location and most deluxe day spa with larger treatment rooms, an expanded menu of services and cutting-edge design finishes.

Situated on two floors, the latest Aura Spa features a submerged soundproof lower level with three 250-square-foot state-of-the-art treatment rooms that present a remote and tranquil spa experience. Upon entry, patrons are greeted with a larger reception area in a peaceful lounge setting adjacent to a 250-square-foot esthetician treatment room. The innovative esthetician space hosts a variety of nourishing skincare services from clinical and organic facials to cost effective waxing.

Designed by Hallock Design Group and Stoneking-von Storch Architects, the newest Aura Spa features soothing design finishes of an Asian-modern aesthetic that incorporates a balance of rosewood and teak wood flooring, woven grass cloth carpeting, textured slate and exposed brick backdrops with notched bronze sconces that emit soft lighting throughout. A large floating Buddha shrine descends upon the lobby area from the back stairway landing. The rear staircase provides direct access to the Zen Spa that features a unisex steam room and sauna and also connects to the men’s and women’s locker rooms located on the second level of VIDA Fitness.

“We are thrilled to bring a luxury day spa that provides comforting and therapeutic services to the U Street corridor,” says David von Storch, president of UAC. “The delivery of the new Aura Spa flagship nicely complements the well-appointed health and wellness amenities that our 1612 U Street lifestyle complex encompasses.”

Aura Spa is a premier revitalizing day spa treatment facility that offers relaxation and detoxification treatments including skin care, facials, body treatments and massage therapy with other locations at the Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown Hotel in Penn Quarter and the Metropole complex in Logan Circle.
UAC’s 60,000-square-foot fitness and lifestyle complex at 1612 U Street was completely renovated in summer of 2011 and includes all of von Storch’s three integrated and affiliated businesses under one roof. The VIDA Fitness flagship opened in summer 2011 as well as Bang Salon located on the first level. The membership-only rooftop Penthouse Pool Club opened in spring 2012 and provides food and beverage service from Capitol City Brewing Company — UAC’s dining entity.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
