Open Mic Comedy at the Looking Glass – Monday Nights

comedy hourLGLsmall

From an email:

“Looking Glass Lounge will be hosting what is believed to be the only open mic comedy night in all of greater Petworth. This coming Monday night will be the inaugural night of jokes, but hopefully this will become a regular and, ideally, funny neighborhood institution.

Date: Monday, December 14, 2009
Time: 7:00pm – 10:00pm
Location: Looking Glass Lounge, 3634 Georgia Ave, NW

Local comics Reggie Melbrough and Mike Curran host a comedy evening at The Looking Glass Lounge. Sign up is from 7pm to 7:45pm. Opening performances by the hosts last until 8pm at which time the rest of the show will kick off, ending at 10pm. Comics will have ten minute sets and yes, there are open mic opportunities for some of you looking for embarrassment! At the end of the show, three people will be selected from the crowd to try their hand at stand-up, one joke a piece. The best joke gets a $25 gift certificate to be used at The Looking Glass Lounge or The Wonderland Ballroom.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
