“The Metropolitan Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating several suspects that have used the same tactic in connection with three carjackings and one attempted carjacking that have occurred in the Northeast and Southeast quadrants of the District of Columbia.

The suspects are known to rear end a victim’s vehicle and when both vehicles come to a stop and the victim’s exit their vehicle, the suspects then enter the victim’s vehicle and drive away both vehicles.

• On Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at approximately 7:01 am, a two door gray vehicle rear ended the victim’s vehicle while waiting at a stop light at the intersection of Alabama Avenue and Naylor Street, SE. When the victim exited the vehicle to assess the damage, a suspect ran to the victim’s vehicle and then both vehicles drove away.

• On Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at approximately 9:47 am, an unknown vehicle rear ended the victim’s vehicle while at the intersection of Division Avenue and Eastern Avenue, NE. The victim exited the vehicle to assess the damage, she was pushed by a suspect who then entered her vehicle and then both vehicles drove away.

• On Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at approximately 10:21 am, a black Toyota Avalon rear ended the victim’s vehicle at the intersection of Fort Davis Drive and Massachusetts Avenue, SE. The victim remained in the vehicle and told the suspect she was calling the police. The suspect then fled in the black Toyota Avalon which had been taken in the carjacking earlier that same day at 9:47 am.

• On Thursday, September 12, 2013, at approximately 8:05 AM, a silver vehicle, possibly a Buick, rear ended the victim’s vehicle while at the intersection of Hartford Street and Alabama Avenue, SE. When the victim exited her vehicle to inspect the damage, the suspect exited the striking vehicle and fled in the victim’s vehicle. The driver of the suspect’s vehicle followed in his vehicle.

The suspects in these cases have been described as black males, in their 20’s. One of the suspects has long dread locks.

The Metropolitan Police Department recommends that if you are involved in a rear end collision, please stay in your vehicle with your doors locked, and call 911 for police assistance or to request an ambulance if required. If possible, write down the make, model, and license plate of vehicle that collided with you as well as a description of any person involved. If the vehicle flees the location, note the direction of travel and any other information about the suspects or vehicle (such as a cracked windshield, missing hubcaps, bumper stickers, missing or broken side view mirrors, etc.) Do not follow the vehicle or take any other action.
