“Dear PoPville,
We’ve been to Domku a few times recently and keep peeking in to see the progress on Petworth Citizen. Looks a little quiet. Do you have an update on the opening?”
I spoke with owner Paul Ruppert (Room 11, Passenger etc.) who tells me they’ve made nice progress and are on track to open around the first week of October (knock wood, knock wood.)
“Petworth Citizen” is inspired by the community newspaper of the same name that chronicled Petworth neighborhood happenings from 1916 – 1951. “Petworth Citizen” will be a neighborhood bar (829 Upshur St, NW) with great bar food and a literary focus. The name also points to our intention to become a gathering place, welcoming neighbors from near and far.”

And in possibly even bigger news the unnamed spot from Mr. Ruppert located across the street should open about three months after the Petworth Citizen opens. They’ve recently applied for a liquor license which says:
“Restaurant serving a chef – driven menu of Japanese-French inspired food and cocktails. Seating capacity and total load of 25.”
More info as they get closer to opening. If you’ll excuse me for a few moments I’m going to go weep with joy…

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
