Golden Heart Yoga Broken Into and Vandalized Twice Over the Weekend

From an email:

We want to alert you to the fact that Golden Heart Yoga DC was robbed TWICE this past weekend. The first break-in included some pretty serious vandalism, and then they came back 24 hours later to finish the job. This is particularly hard for us since both of us owners live within a few blocks of the studio, and seeing this type of violence and negativity in our neighborhood is heartbreaking for us.

First, we want to thank our incredible community of students and teachers, who spent much of Saturday helping us clean up, and then on Sunday pulled together to keep classes going–even at one neighbor’s house while the police were on site!

Unfortunately, we have been stripped pretty bare. They not only took our computer, sound system, and other electronics, but they even walked off with our soap, cleaning supplies and toilet paper!

We are still up and running, but we’re asking if any of our neighbors might have any of the following they can donate or lend to us while we get our feet back on the ground:

computer
scanner
ipod player
ipod or shuffle (can be old–this just is for our ambient music)

We welcome you into class, sending hope that the great officers from 4D who we’ve been working with can find the guys who have done this.

There may be some temporary schedule changes in the coming week, so please make sure to keep an eye on our website.

Again, we are so incredibly thankful to have such an awesome community, and many thanks to those who have already brought over cleaning supplies to help us out!!

Please continue to support your neighborhood yoga studio here in Petworth. We are hosting a pot-luck community dinner on Wednesday, April 3 at 7 pm and we look forward to seeing you there.

Namaste,
Julie and Elizabeth

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
