Dear PoPville,
I am wheelchair user living in DC and looking to move into a more accessible apartment. Currently, my building has a flat entrance and elevator, meeting some bare minimums for accessibility (and boy do I pay exorbitantly for those!). I would love to live somewhere with the option of more accessible features within the apartment (e.g. lowered cabinets, a sink that I can roll under, a kitchen I can actually turn around in, etc.). By law many buildings are required to make these options available, but the legal battles you have to go through to get them are not worth the cost. I would love to live in the U-Street, Columbia Heights area, but am flexible. Here’s hoping PoPville has some building recommendations or places to look!
