Props to the Cops – Homicide and Car Jacking Arrests

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced an arrest has been made in the fatal shooting which occurred in the 1100 block of 8th Street, NE.

On Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at approximately 3:51 pm, units from the Fifth District heard sounds of gunshots coming from the area of the 1100 block of 8th Street, NE. Officers responded and located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived and determined that the victim had no signs consistent with life. The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where he was pronounced dead.

The decedent is identified as 21 year-old Gregory Darnell Troxler of Northeast, Washington, DC

On Friday, October 19, 2012, an arrest warrant was obtained for 18 year-old Kevon Austin of Southeast, Washington, DC, charging him with Murder II while Armed for the shooting death of Gregory Darnell Troxler.

On Saturday, October 20, 2012, at approximately 4:40 pm, Kevon Austin was arrested by officers of the Fifth District during a traffic stop in the 1500 block of Eckington Place, NE.

This evening [Friday] shortly before 8 PM a victim was robbed of his vehicle at gunpoint by two armed subjects in the 1500 block of C St NE. First District units responded to the 911 call and immediately obtained a lookout for the wanted suspects and the stolen vehicle. The lookout was broadcasted to both 1D and 5D units, due to the location of the offense. Approximately 10 minutes later 1D and 5D units spotted the vehicles and suspect in the area of Bladensburg Rd and H Streets NE. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle which fled with both 1D and 5D officers in pursuit. After a chase, assisted by the MPD helicopter, the suspects were apprehended in the 600 block of 15th St NE and the vehicle recovered.

This offense was closed quickly due to the rapid response of the officers and the cooperative efforts of 1D and 5D working together.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
