From a press release:

District Karaoke, D.C.’s first and only social, team-based karaoke league, is pleased to announce the opening of registration for its second season. Due to the success of the inaugural season, which sold out in six (6) days, District Karaoke has expanded from one (1) night to three (3) nights a week – Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

For a 10-week season, teams compete for the title of karaoke champions. Each night, teams compete in three (3) rounds. The first two (2) rounds are solo performances with a group performance for the third round. At the end of each round, everyone in the sponsor venue, team member or not, may rate the performers on how well they “Sing It,” a measure of musicality, “Bring It,” a measure of stage presence and performance, and how well they “Schwing It,” or their overall appeal to the audience.

Registration for the Spring 2012 season opens on Monday, April 2, 2012. Interested singers can register at www.districtkaraoke.com/registration. Teams can have a maximum of eight (8) players, with at least two (2) males and two (2) females. Participants can register individually or as a team or group. Membership costs $45.00 per person.

The Monday evening division will take place in the main room of Riot Act Comedy Theater, located at 801 E Street NW, starting on April 30, 2012. The Tuesday and Wednesday evening divisions will occur on the 2nd floor of Policy Restaurant & Lounge, located at 1904 14th Street NW, starting on May 1, 2012 and May 2, 2012 respectively. Each division begins at 7:00 pm. The season will run weekly for 10-weeks, excluding federal holidays. Each week, league play is followed by public, open karaoke.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
