King and I Re-Opens in Petworth

“Dear PoPville,

Any idea what is up with the King and I Pizza? I’ve tried to order pizza a few times but the phone goes straight to a fax. I finally got someone to answer tonight and I tried to order pizza and they said they aren’t selling pizza this week? They changed the menu apparently, but when I asked what they were selling now the woman could only tell me they had fried tilapia. Other than that she didn’t know what was on the menu. Seriously? Any insight you might have would be greatly appreciated.”

The King and I located at 847 Upshur St, NW has reopened under new management. I know there were some ambitious plans for the space but apparently they fell through. I’m sorry I can’t share more details because I don’t want to jeopardize plans for a new space. In any event, I briefly chatted with the new management and I’m happy to say they were extremely nice. I also am pleased to see the glass partition remains down. Small victories.

A look at the new menu after the jump.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
