Update on Chez Billy – New French Bistro Coming to Petworth (from the Folks Behind Marvin, Gibson etc.)

Rendering of Chez Billy to be located at 3813 Georgia Ave, NW

“Dear PoP,

I was at the ANC 4C meeting last week and was pleased that the commission voted unanimously to support the liquor license for Chez Billy (in the Billy Simpson’s space). The general manager made his pitch and it sounded great. They passed around a floor plan and rendering that differs a little from the last one you posted. Most notably, the main bar will now be open to the floor above with 2 interior balconies overlooking it (with bar stools and counter space) as illustrated in the rendering. See attached. It looks awesome! According to the manager, if all goes well, they will be open by December 1st.”

I also spoke with the owners who confirmed an opening (knock wood, knock wood) of Chez Billy, to be located at 3813 Georgia Ave, NW (just north of the Petworth metro), in 8-10 weeks.

We last spoke about the space back in early August.

Like the idea of a French Bistro?

Between this and the approval for the new Petworth Safeway across the street – we are not going to recognize this stretch of a Georgia Ave in the near future. Sweet!

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
