I frequently walk my dog up this part of 2nd Street NW and I’ve always thought of this as “the house across the street from the Anna J. Cooper House”. We’ve visited this block fairly recently in Popville as you can see from this photo of the subject house with a raging fire across the street, and for a recent Good Deal or Not Revisited. I’m pleased to report that the home that had the devastating fire earlier this year has been gutted and stabilized. Hopefully, re-building will commence soon.

Continues after the jump.

The most recent owners had lived in this home for the past decade, since they purchased it in 2000 for a net of $261,900. I’m including a link to the 2000 listing just so you can see what it looked like before it became, um, GREEN and yellow. There was some discussion during the original Good Deal or Not (GDoN) post about whether there was some flipping action going on here, but it looks more like there was a buyout refi of one of the owners. In any case, that decade of ownership saw a sea change within the neighborhood. Many folks like to grumble about the current state of the unfinished retaining wall on the Anna J. Cooper house across the street, but it was really such a short while ago that Dr. Cooper’s amazing historic home sat in complete ruin.

The earliest (easily) available record of transfer was in 1998, when the home sold for $139,000.

For many remote workers, a messy home is distracting.

You’re getting pulled into meetings, and your unread emails keep ticking up. But you can’t focus because pet hair tumbleweeds keep floating across the floor, your desk has a fine layer of dust and you keep your video off in meetings so no one sees the chaos behind you.

It’s no secret a dirty home is distracting and even adds stress to your life. And who has the energy to clean after work? That’s why it’s smart to enlist the help of professionals, like Well-Paid Maids.
