Thanks to all for passing on the news from Tsehay Ethiopian:

“Dear Tsehay Family, Friends, and Our Beloved Community,

It is with a heavy heart that I share some difficult news. After much thought and consideration, Tsehay Restaurant will be temporarily closing its doors by the end of this year.

For the past year and a half, we have experienced an incredibly challenging time. Our business has slowed and cost of goods keeps rising tremendously, and despite our continued efforts, it has become increasingly difficult to keep our restaurant operating. We have also tried to work with our landlord to find a way forward by asking for some relief on our rent, but unfortunately, we have not been able to reach an agreement.

This decision has not been easy. Tsehay is so much more than a restaurant to me. It is

a part of my family, a part of my heart, and a continuation of my mother’s legacy. Every meal we have served, every conversation shared around our tables, and every smile we have received from our customers has meant more to us than words can express.

To our loyal customers, our neighbors in Adams Morgan, our friends, and everyone who has supported Tsehay over the years: thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for choosing us, for celebrating special moments with us, for sharing our food with your loved ones, and for making Tsehay feel like home. Your love and support have carried us through so much, and I will never forget it.

I know this news may be heartbreaking for many of you, just as it is for me. I wish circumstances were different. I wish we could continue welcoming you through our doors as we have always done. But sometimes, even when we give something our very best, we have to take a step back.

At this time, I do not know how long this temporary closure will last. What I do know is that I have not given up. I still believe in Tsehay, I believe in the future, and I believe that better days will come. I will continue to work hard, explore every possibility, and do everything I can to return and carry on my mother’s beautiful legacy.

Thank you for your unwavering support.
