From a press release:
“Debuting July 4, Fruitive, the family-owned fast-casual restaurant known for its 100% plant-based and organic menu, is introducing a new made-to-order ice cream experience at its 701 Pennsylvania Ave. NW location in Washington, DC.
Inspired by the simple fruit-blended ice cream stands commonly found along roadsides and at local farms in New Zealand, Fruitive’s new offering combines real fruit with a house-made vegan base crafted from cashew cream and coconut milk. The result is a fresh, dairy-free and gluten-free treat that reflects Fruitive’s commitment to wholesome, ingredient-driven food.
To create its signature creamy texture, Fruitive uses a specialized Little Jem machine imported from New Zealand. The machine blends frozen fruit with the restaurant’s house-made base to order, creating a smooth, fruit-infused soft-serve style dessert made fresh for every guest.
Available in vanilla (made with gluten-free oats, cashews and Madagascar vanilla) and chocolate (made with cashews, coconut and cacao),
the ice cream can be blended with fruits including strawberries, bananas and raspberries and customized with toppings such as freeze-dried fruit, nuts, chocolate sauce and peanut butter drizzle. Guests can also enjoy the treat in Fruitive’s house-made gluten-free waffle cone. A nut-free version will be introduced in the coming months.
The new menu item reflects the hands-on approach that has defined Fruitive since its earliest days. Long before opening its brick-and-mortar locations in DC, founders Gregg and Katie Rozeboom were developing recipes, preparing food and serving customers themselves at farmers’ markets in Penn Quarter and Dupont Circle. Today, that same commitment continues, with recipes developed in-house and products made fresh daily by the Fruitive team.
“We wanted to create ice cream that makes you feel good,” said Gregg Rozeboom, founder of Fruitive. “When we discovered New Zealand’s real fruit ice cream, we loved that it was all about real ingredients and fresh fruit. Our plant-based, gluten-free version is blended to order with frozen fruit and a house-made cashew and coconut milk base, creating a delicious treat that’s simple, flavorful and true to what Fruitive is all about.”
The ice cream will be available daily exclusively at Fruitive’s 701 Pennsylvania Ave. NW location in Washington, DC.”
