From an email:

“The Office of Planning has published preliminary findings and recommendations for improving the H Street corridor and invite the community to join us in discussing them at an open house:

June 24, from 5:30-7:30pm at the former Autozone (1207 H St. NE)

The draft is based on research and analysis, input from over 200 community members, and coordination with District agencies. We’re inviting feedback at the open house and an online survey, open through July 26. We’ll then revise the draft to prepare a final study for release this fall.

Our initial findings point to a higher-than-average vacancy rate for ground floors, a decrease in visitor traffic over the past six years,

and a need for a refreshed zoning and land use strategy. We’ve also found that people want to have a more walkable, green, and clean corridor; see local businesses thrive; and maintain and celebrate H Street’s unique identity as an active urban neighborhood that is both a connector and a destination for its arts and restaurant scene.”
