“In a world that’s well, depressing, I’d like to extend BIG praise to the volunteers of DC City Wildlife’s Duck Watch. I had the privilege of watching one of their best in action (last Friday.) My friend and I spotted a mama duck and her 13 ducklings stuck in the empty fountain at City Center. Thankfully,
we knew just who to call!

In came April to save the day and we together walked 2 miles with the ducklings and Mama Mallard waddling behind to safety at the Capitol reflecting pool. This is one of the spots where Duck Watch volunteers visit daily this time of year, nesting season, to check on the ducks and feed them. And as per April, today was their busiest day yet as she’d already helped two broods to safety before coming to us!

A little reminder that all hope isn’t lost and the DC ducks are in good hands!”
If you spot a hawk, any interesting wildlife or celebrity skateboarder Tony Hawk, and get a good photo please send in an email where you spotted them to [email protected]. Thanks! Hawks around Town is made possible by a generous grant from the Ben and Sylvia Gardner foundation.
