Mount Pleasant

END OF AN ERA: Dos Gringos Closing at the end of the month in Mount Pleasant. La Lucha, “sandwiches & more” coming soon.

3116 Mount Pleasant Street, NW

And now for the bad news…

Thanks to Terry and Naomi for sending this incredibly sad news from Mount Pleasant:

“Dos Gringos in Mt Pleasant is closing at the end of the month. I just talked to Alex, the owner, this morning and she told us the last day is April 26th. It’s not public anywhere that I know of. That place is a Mt Pleasant institution and we’re all very sad to see it go.

(FWIW, it seems like a new spot will be opening up there in mid-May that Alex seems excited about — but still very sad)”

Dos Gringos Cafe writes:

“April 2026

At the end of this month, Dos Gringos will serve our last Primo Avocado Sandwich and close our doors. It’s a good thing. For 26 years, it has been our privilege to open our doors and serve our Mount Pleasant Community.

It has been our mission to provide tasty, affordable, non processed food. The people of the Mount Pleasant community made that into something more. The closing of the Cafe opens the opportunity for a new, independent business to serve this resilient neighborhood. Coming soon is La Lucha, sandwiches & more by Chad Henry.

La Lucha aims to honor many of the Dos Gringos values that made the space special. It will continue the tradition of being an accessible, welcoming gathering place—including beloved touches like $1 coffee—while building on that foundation with fresh, locally sourced ingredients and affordable, healthy, and delicious food. Though this might be an end of one chapter, it is also the start of the next part of the Mount Pleasant Story. Viva Mount Pleasant. I, Alex Kramer am forever grateful for your love, support and loyalty that has enabled me to live a life with value.”

STAY TUNED.

ICYMI:

In January we posted that Dos Locos applies for liquor license in Mount Pleasant at same address as Dos Gringos. At the time no placards were posted and an employee didn’t know anything about the development. Now the placards have been posted for Dos Locos at the lower level.

“New Retailer’s Class “C” Tavern with an indoor seating capacity of 85, a Summer Garden with 20 Seats, and a Total Occupancy Load of 115. The Licensee is also requesting an Entertainment Endorsement inside premises to provide Live Entertainment, Dancing, and Cover Charge. Alcohol Carry-out and Delivery and Holiday Extension of Hours Endorsements.”

Stay tuned for that too…
