“NWS issues a Winter Weather Advisory for District of Columbia from 4AM until 4PM 12/5.

WHAT: Snow, with accumulation near 1 inch.

Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions will impact the Friday morning commute.

WHERE: District of Columbia.

WHEN: From 4AM until 4PM Friday.”

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that the District of Columbia Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA), in collaboration with the DC Department of Human Services (DHS), will activate an Extreme Cold Alert effective today, Thursday, December 4 at 8:00 p.m. until tomorrow, Friday, December 5 at 9:00 a.m. Mayor Bowser also announced that she will deploy the District Snow Team, with pre-treatment brining operations for the National Highway System starting at 7:00 p.m. tonight and salting beginning on all major roadways and elevated structures at midnight.

The National Weather Service is forecasting snow to start between 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on Friday morning with steady activity between 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Snow is expected to taper off between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. with a possible accumulation of an inch or more. The low overnight temperature will be 20 degrees Fahrenheit when accounting for wind chill. Due to the mix of precipitation and low temperatures, pedestrians, motorists, and bicyclists should limit outdoor exposure, and proceed with caution when traveling on roads and walkways.”
