“Dear PoPville,
I wonder if you have been hearing from the folks in Adams Morgan about the DDOT disaster on Columbia Road NW?
I am referring to Columbia Road specifically, usually between 16th and Mintwwod. It feels like a Dr Seuss book, walking down Mulberry Street with trucks askew, blocking the crosswalks in the bike lanes, people almost getting run over trying to look around a hand truck filled with towering boxes crossing the street while cars are veering around to get by.
The cars and drop offs for the pet hospital are often two deep. confusion everywhere. It could almost be comical if it was not such a disaster and a true danger to all involved. It is overkill for buses and bicycles with minimal consideration for the basic needs and function of residents and businesses. Business on Columbia Road is down 50% for some with many day businesses suffering.
I understand that the Adams Morgan BID has submitted to DDOT a reasonable evaluation of the current changes and situational incidents with requests for some changes that could make this “Bus Priority” project more successful for all. As of yet there has been NO response from DDOT.
DDOT”s tunnel vision and bike activists attacks have compromised the ability of the local business community to speak out. No one is against bike lanes or bike safety, just some attention to the new dangers would be appreciated.“
