Dear PoPville

“Lost Two Special Paintings, can the community help me locate them?”

A longshot but:

“Dear PoPville,

A few years ago, during an office move, (the building was at 1120 19th St NW / Dupont Circle. I was abroad and could not move my paintings and when I came back they were gone.) I lost two paintings that I got in Haiti—artworks that hold deep sentimental and cultural value to me. Despite my best efforts, their whereabouts remain unknown. I’m hopeful that the community might help recover these cherished pieces.

I am more than willing to offer a reward for any information that leads to their recovery.

The painter is Gerard Fortune, who passed away in 2019. He was a self-taught artist from Petion-Ville who began painting in 1978 after working as a pastry chef. His work is celebrated for its vibrant, naive style, featuring subjects ranging from everyday Haitian life and Vodou ceremonies to religious themes.”
