“Election Worker Tax Documents Seemingly Delayed”

“Dear PoPville,

I was an election worker in 2024 during the primary and general elections, and I have worked every election since the pandemic to ensure that older workers who needed to stay home were replaced. It was overall a great experience over the years, but now it is tax season.

Each year there has been a hiccup. One year they sent my 1099 to my ex’s place despite me updating my address during the in-processing, but he was kind enough to forward it to me. Another year, I guess something changed and they sent a 1099 only to replace it with a W-2C. I guess they felt we were classified incorrectly, so I had to refile my taxes. I work in HR, so I know that personnel tax documents (W-2s and 1099s) need to be postmarked by January 31st. It is well after that date, and mine hasn’t arrived. I called the DC Board of Elections and they referred me to the Office of Pay and Retirement Services (OPRS) who produces the tax documents. They said they will go out on February 14th. I am not sure if government offices have a different due date for their tax documents, but I did find it strange that they don’t have the same January 31st date as everyone else.

The DC Board of Elections told me, if there are any issues in receiving my tax document, to contact [email protected] or call them at 202-741-8622. They also said additional information can be found on page 19 of the Election Worker’s manual.”
